I've just bought a Kubota B7000.
The previous owner had it for ten years and only ever pulled a trailer around their flat land. The tractor was never put under any load.

I hooked it up to a tedder yesterday and gave it 3/4 throttle to get everything up to speed and the tractor emits quite a lot of white/grey smoke from the exhaust.

I'm guessing this is due to it not having being run above idle for many years.

Are there any suggestions from the audience here as to what I can do to rectify this ?

Another question, how do I check the transmission fluid level ?

Thank you
Shane

White color in the exhaust can be an indication of water...Possibly head gasket leak...Any sign of coolant loss?

coolant level looks ok, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Too much fuel (too rich) can also show up as white/gray smoke under some conditions. This usually happens when the engine is not warmed up. I could be an injector is sticky or leaking.

One thing I've tried to clean up dirty injectors is to drain the fuel filter canister and refill it with seafoam, start the tractor or vehicle and let it idle till the seafoam works through. This will create A LOT of smoke so I would do it outside. Whatever is left in the can just dump in the fuel tank. It also would be good for it to put a constant heavy load on the engine for a couple hours and see if that cleans things up. Good luck.

For what it might have been used for the engine never got up to temperature to break it in. I'd check coolant, oil levels ad go put it to work and be sure the engine gets warm. Do watch the engine oil level!

So looking at your post again I have some questions.

1. When does the engine have white/grey smoke, under heavy load, while revving up to 3/4 throttle, only under light load like going down hill?
2. How many hours?
3. Do you know the service history? Fuel filter changed per the manual?
4. How old is the fuel in it?

If it is a HST there should be a dipstick to check the fluid level.

I have a similar vintage but smaller B4200. There is no dipstick (no driver jokes) on my tractor. Just a fill plug in front of the seat on the transmission. since in my application this also doubles as a drain port for my FEL, I have no way to check the fluid easily. Then again I have no leaks so I am not too concerned.

No sight glass either? Do you have the owners manual, does it tell you how to check the fluid?

1. only under load (running a hay rake at 3/4 throttle). Doesn't smoke otherwise/
2. no hour meter fitted
3. no history, but it has a new filter fitted. Used by a commercial gardener. I get the impression he looked after it.
4. it seemed to be in regular use, so fuel won't be extremely old. I've added fresh fuel. Will have probably used up the old fuel by now.
