Hello,

I recently purchased a Kubota b6000. I was very happy with it running strong on the gas it came with. Then I put some diesel in. Unfortunately it was not made clear to me that the original engine had been replaced with a WG600-B GASOLINE engine. (I should have realized this -- but I did not)

Needless to say the engine stopped and then the next day I discovered why. I flushed out all the diesel put in new plugs and a fuel filter, and it started right up. However now it has developed a weird problem. If I start it up it will run real strong for like 10 minutes. Then it dies. After that it will only run on dead idil for a bit, then nothing. You can crank it and it will spurt and backfire and might even turn over but not run for more then a few seconds.

Let it sit over night -- pull the plugs clean them and repeat. Seems like the fuel is not being burned off, so I suspect fouled plugs. Should I get new wires while Im at it?

Any ideas what I can do to stop this cycle. The tractor is not much good 10 minutes at a time.

Sounds like it is not getting fuel. Remove the air filter and squirt some gas directly into the air inlet, once it dies. If it runs on the squirted gas, check the flow to the carburetor including the fuel filter.

I am starting to suspect the fuel cut off solenoid in the carburetor. Seems like that might be gummed up.

How do the new plugs looks? Black, sooty? Might be fouled.
I'm thinking you may not have all the diesel out of the fuel system.

I have replaced the fuel cutoff valve on the bottom of the carburetor. No Dice. I can confirm that the engine is getting gas.

What happens is the engine will start up. It will run for 10 -15 minutes before it cuts off. Then it will not run. It will backfire a lot when you try to start it. The only thing that seemed to have an effect was to advance the timing all the way. This did not solve the problem but seemed to make it run longer also it makes it easier to start after the initial die off. If I let it sit over night -- the next day it will start up and run again for its 15 minutes.

I am going to replace the coil wire tomorrow. Any other suggestions?

Dan

I am going to replace the coil wire tomorrow.

Check your fuel cap to make sure it is venting. If not, the fuel pump will try and pull a vacuum, and it will shut down due to fuel starvation.

that 10m run is the fuel in the carb bowl plus whatever dripor two it gets.

check fuel tocarb, and thru needle valve. make sure flaot is not stuck or heavy.

the diesel otherwise didn't hurt much.. other than give you a mess to clean up. think of it as too much upper cyl lube..

might have loaded up the rings and plugs.. but once you clean her out and get her running on gas that should clear up fast.

remember next time that diesels don't have spark plugs.. :)

Hello tcnjdeluca. You may have to baby sit your tractor, for half an hour or so, to burn all the diesel out. Get a squrt bottol full of gas, get the tractor running, and keep spraying gas in the carb. to keep it running. The tops of the pistons are going to be flouded with diesel fuel, and the carb, will have diesel fuel in it. The diesel will be resistent to flow through the carb, as it's thicker than gas. But the new gas getting in to the carb will slowly thin it out. Your engine ran good until it got the diesel in it, so I wouldn't think that you have an electrical problem.

Hello Everyone,

I have given the carb a thorough cleaning I am pretty sure all the diesel is out. Symptoms persist but I do see some change.

The tractor seemed to run the best on full advance of the ignition. I thought I might have a coil problem so I replaced the coil with a general automotive one.

It turned right over and then it struggled to warm up, I had to restart it a few times. But once I had it warm it ran very well. It did not bog down when I opened it up to full and ran it around the property a little and put it under load. Everything went well. I pulled it back into the garage shut it down and came back 5 minutes later.

Now it would not start. Strong smell of gasoline, it would not turn over but it did backfire.

This is getting frustrating -- hoping it will turn over tomorrow and I can make some adjustments. Any suggestions?

Pull carb and thoroughly clean same for fuel line

Clean everything real good then you'll be good to go

Unlikely anything to do with ignition
