Landini 4140 HST
Hi All. The time has finally come and I am ready to spend! These are the 2 models I have come down to after lots of reading on here, and sitting on each. I'd love to hear your comments and opinions on, which way you'd go!

The main differences are gross horsepower (4 in favor of the Kubota) loader capacity (the Landini wins here by a remarkable 1000 lbs), and vehicle weight (the Landini weighs 50% more overall - a large difference, which I am taking as a positive thing, for stability and strength. They both have an HST.

The Kubota dealer was helpful when I shopped and is a 45-minute drive away. The Landini dealer is 3 miles down the road and was also helpful. Advantage Landini for location.

Another difference is that the Kubota has a mid-PTO as standard equipment, but it's optional on the Landini and I forgot to price that when I was there. I am pretty sure I want a front snowblower for this winter so the mid-PTO is important to me.

I have to reconfirm if mounting and dismounting the mid-mount mower and front snowblower are easier or more difficult on the Landini vs the Kubota.

My uses are the usual ones. I'll likely buy a MMM and box blade in addition to the FEL, and likely the front-mount snowblower. Snow clearing, field clearing, 700' driveway maintenance, building a tiered set of steps down a hillside beside the house, some stone building over then couple of years - stone patio, plus shoring up the shoreline with rocks to prevent erosion where I launch my boat, plus launching the boat and hauling out the dock in late fall, etc etc etc. I'm sure it'll get lots of use!!!

Over to y'all - comments? Thoughts? Other considerations I haven't thought of?

Without considering the cost of the additional mid-PTO for the Landini, the prices quoted by the 2 dealers were within $500 of each other - $20,000. CDN.

Does Landini or your dealer offer a front mount snow blower? If none is available that might be a consideration.

Good luck with your purchase.

I have a Montana 3940HST which is essentially the same as the Landini (al little more HP than the one you are looking at. I am very happy with it.

I don't think the Kubota comes with rear remotes and the Landini comes with two. I am surprised that the two machines are so close in price...

Before buying either you might consider trying the 3pt hitch; be a shame if you got the 'new' Kubota and it had the 3pt valve from the L3400

I have done a direct comparison between my machine and the L3400 and the extra weight and stronger loader make a HUGE difference. With the extra weight of the Landini you probably get bigger tires so more traction. I also don't like the way the drag links are bent on the 'bota, they will not accomodate some implements (old set of plows). They are both good machines but given the option again I would pick the Montana / Landini.

When I bought my Montana I was looking at the 2740HST, when I asked for the extra $ to get the 3940 it was a no-brainer:)

Good luck,
Mike

Doesn't sound like a fair size comparison, but I don't know much about, nor have I ever seen a Landini or Montana in all of my travels. That would make up my mind for me. The 3200 will likely win hands down in the attachment department. Does Landini offer MMM and Front blower. Check to see how easily the MMM can be removed - the 3200 will win here too. Keep in mind that a bigger machine will spec out better in capacities than a smaller one, such is the case with the aforementioned Montana and Kubota. Personally I would be to worried about Landini doing a Whoudini -they can't possibly sell many machines here in North America. Of course those who have them will say they are here to stay, just like Farmtrac was. I doubt Montana will be here in a few years too.

I too am concerned about Montana (Landini) sticking around. They were doing well when I bought, hopefully they will pull through. A good thing about them is the Mitsubishi engine and Eaton transmission - pretty sure support will be around for them.

To clarify my earlier post - the L3400 and my machine we bought at the same time for the same price. My comparision was "bang for buck" which I think is accurate (the OP also compared machines of different HP).

I don't know if the B3200 is a premium tractor or not (over the L series) but the other brand comes with more options.

I would not be disappointed with either.

Cheers,
Mike

I'd highly doubt the landini outlifts the Kubota by 1000lbs, the measurements are probably being taken at different points.

Those specs that you gave for the Landini 2840 seem sooooooo high, that I just can not believe they are correct. But ya know what It's a free country and a man can purchase what ever floats his boat.Point of infromation though----------- man thought that the Edsel was the car of the future. Good luck, but before you buy, look and look, read info.Search this site and read what TBN members are saying after all there is much knowladge here. Landini huh? Never even heard of one.

This is my point. I just could not recommend a brand that I was worried about being around in a few years.

I hear you, MDM, I hadn't ever heard of Landini until a dealer opened down the road a few years ago. Now I see they have been in business for 120 years or so, since 1884, and have become part of the Argo Group. Sure, I suppose they could disappear overnight, in this economy no company is guaranteed to be around forever. But they sure look to be a solid company.

And re the loader stats, I am going to have to be convinced in person too, by trying these 2 tractors out with a few loads of whatever. Here's a file with the loader stats from their brochure.
