kubota B 2420
Just bought a brandnew B2420 for working on the estate: transport, cleaning stables, loading stones and sand, working in the wood.
As a novice tractor user, I'd like to have your advice on do's and don'ts with this machine.
Yeah, name is KubotaX2 cause I own since 4 years a fantastic mover (2160) of the same brand.

Congratulations!

The model is either 2320 or 2620 but either way with the three range transmission you will find the productivity of the middle range the one you will probably be using for most chores!

I see in your profile you are getting it with a loader. Some thoughts I would have are:
When moving material with the loader, keep the load low to the ground and even when the loader is empty, keep the bucket low. That weight up high makes the tractor MUCH less stable.

You will probably want to get something to put on the 3 pt hitch to balance the weight of the loader when using it. I usually have my box blade on the back.

When you start getting multiple implements for the 3 pt hitch, you may want to consider some type of quick hitch. I use the Pats quick hitch system advertised on this site, but others have their favorite.

Assume this model has a system for removing the FEL similar to the US versions, it is pretty simple to take it off. I really only take mine off when I use the MMM to mow and that is to avoid hitting things such as the house with the FEL and since you have a dedicated mower, you might not do it much. But it is worth practicing so you know how to remove it and overcome the fear.

If it is like mine, there is a grease fitting where the HST pedals pivot under the floor board. It needs to be greased once in a while. If not, it will tend to stick in either the forward or reverse and may keep moving after you take your foot off. Also, it may cause the tractor not to start until you push on the pedals to center them.

Enjoy your tractor

a lot of good idea's, many thanks! I'll read and check them carefully and you're right: better try them out such as dismounting the FEL.
Thanks !:)

I found the YouTube videos on mounting and dismounting the FEL to be extremely helpful. Even though not model specific, the Kubota FEL are similar enough, that these video demonstrations showed me the way.

When you get your tractor, check all the fluid levels and re-check them over the next month or two often.

I don't believe Belgium, being a Low Country, has too many hills to worry about, but safety is always number one. Don't "break in" your engine by being "kind" to it, by doing a lot of low rpm work or idling for long periods. Learn where all the filters are, where all the drain ports are.

And READ THE MANUAL through and through. So happy for you on getting this wonderful machine. Our comparable models here are also very sweet.

Ended the year in masses of snow (up to 60 cm of 24 inch) and learned a lot of new things about the Kubota, which I havent got in pictures:D
Most interesting is the fact that I realised only now what a difference it makes in balance just widening the back wheels with 1 inch each. I never would have imagined this makes a huge difference on a irregular slope covered with snow.
I was surprised as well about the fact that a 4x4 traction on this tractor is definitely different in its behavior from my Audi Allroad-Quattro.
On the one hand, the Audi does it all by himself, on the other hand, you cannot "play" with the car, but one can with the tractor. Just now understood why you can brake on one side and what is it used for.

As with regard to the front loader -which is a great thing for a men's back conidition- it is indeed a must to attach something at the back to keep balance and not tip over. I bought a 400 liter bin that is attached to the 3 point hitch. http://www.google.be/imgres?imgurl=...a=X&ei=N9IhTcjsBcmh8QPj9qGsBQ&ved=0CDgQ9QEwBQ

Also learned that a well loaded back bin is very good for traction on snow and ice: I could not advance the same load of stones with a trailer on a snowy-ope, and had to decharge the same weight into the bin. The weight of the bin on the rear axe made me move again.
