I am looking at a good condition 1750 4x4, 400 hours 60" belly deck Bi speed turn turf tires for $7900. Dealer will add a Woods loader for $3000. I think this may be a bit high. Any thoughts on what to offer? Anything I should check for on this unit? This will be my first Compact and first Kubota.

Thanks.

Darius,
Info: The B1750 is in the B1550/B1750/B2150 family of Kubotas.

When looking at an older tractor it is sometime useful to try to find the closest "new" tractor. In your case, the closest "new" Kubota tractor is the B7500HSD 4x4, which I've seen sell as low as $11,200 for tractor with mid-mower.

Here are some differences:
B7500 21hp B1750 20hp
B7500 does not have position control, B1750 does.
B7500 has a nicer "flat deck" design; B1750 does not.
B7500 does not offer the bi-speed option; B1750 does.
Both have power steering.

When I first read your post, I thought that the price seemed high as well. But after writing my post, I now think that the price is at least fair. I've heard that the mid-mower clearance is not that great on the B1550/B1750/B2150 series, but if you get the FEL then it'll at least be a lot easier to remove and install.

Good luck,
Kelvin

I just paid $2500 for a new Woods 1012 loader, with a 66" bucket. Maybe you can get your dealer to sharpen his pencil some more in reguards to that Woods loader.

Darius -- My first tractor was a B1750HST with FEL and belly mower. Nice unit, though I like the feel of the B7500 much better. I used mine hard before trading up to an L3010. Given the asking price, I'd suggest looking at a comparable new tractor as well.

On the used unit, check the linkages (gear range, 2/4WD, PTO controls, etc) in addition to all the usual things you look for in a used vehicle of any type. Also on the mower check out the condition of the serpentine belt ($$$), and have it mounted and dismounted while you watch. If you hit any obstructions with the mmm in place, it places a lot of stress on the mounting points. On mine, a stump tweaked that curved metal piece that remains attached to the tractor and made it very difficult to remount. Also check the alignment of the spring-loaded pins that slide into mated brackets on the rear of the mower unit. I wouldn't pass the deal if you find any damage here, but it would give you bargaining power.

Pete
