The "oil seal" for the front drive shaft on my b1550 wore out (80 on attached diagram). It's the seal between the shaft and the guard tube(40) so I'd call it more of a dust seal.
In order to replace it, I opened the housing (10) around the front universal joint to the front axle. About a pint of oil came out.
My question is where did that oil come from? There is a true oil seal where the shaft enters the front axle. Does the oil normally wee
p through the seal over time, or is the seal shot, or is there a way to deliberately add oil to the universal housing?
