Hi there. Our house plans presently call for a 5' garage door to store a BX23 that will be purchased next year. The Kubota web site gives the overall external width as 66.5" for the Standard Cut 54" MMM (RCK54-23BX). Hoping this will fit through a 5' door with the discharge chute in the upwards position.

I've already tried searching for this answer without any success.

Thanks in advance!

Save yourself a lot of Future grief ... You don't have the door yet... get a standard size door. Go with an 8 foot door, you will never regret having an extra 18 inches on each side of whatever you try to take in & out.

my 54" deck measures 58-59" with the chute up. gonna be a real tight fit thru a 5' doorway.
I have a 7' (double 3-1/2') doorway in my 12 x 24 little barn I built for my BX24.
The doorway is OK, but about an hour after I started putting stuff in the barn, I wished I had made it 16 x 32.

you rarely regret going bigger...

You're right that is going to be tight. I've already inquired about changing the door from 5' to 6', but the 6 footers are not very popular and may be difficult to find. Could also be done with it and just put in an 8' door but the garage is already 30'x26' with the two other 9' doors.

Thanks for responding!

Just remember, it's much cheaper and easier to change it now than to try retrofit it later. If you build it just barely big enough you leave yourself no room for expansion. Don't forget about the height either. With rops up you need 80 inches on some BX models.

I measured the 54 inch deck on my B2620 and the 54 inch deck on my GR2120 and they both measure 57 inches without the chute deflector. It would be a tight squeeze through a five foot door.

All doors will be 8' (96") high so the height won't be an issue, even with the ROPS (87.2") up. I am concerned about the 5' wide door for the tractor - a very tight squeeze. Whichever doors we end up going with I'll have to live with. Changing them in the future is just not going to happen due to the prohibitive costs.

We are still waiting to hear back from the designer we are working with regarding the wider doors. Six and seven foot wide doors are not easily available so we may widen the garage by another 3' and go with an 8' door. Doing this would change the garage dimensions to 33'x26' if we go ahead with the 8' wide door. Heating this space in the winter will also increase slightly, but we are putting in a geothermal radiant floor heating system so it shouldn't be much of a hit. Will also be putting in an air exchange system in the garage to keep the moisture buildup down to minimum.

Thanks for the measurement. It looks like a bigger door is the right way to go.

Glad you came to that conclusion.

When we built ~30 years ago I added a ~half-size roll-up door next to the 16-footer. Seemed like it would be handy. Duh. Too narrow for the mower. A serious pain to use as a man door. I don't own a motorcycle... Really dumb idea. Waaaay expensive to change after the fact even though the garage was wide enough for a full-sized roll-up.

Too soon old, and too late smart,

Z.

The designer got back to me and said that going to a 6' wide garage door shouldn't be a problem - it's not a common size. The other good news is that the 6' door will fit without having to increase the width of the garage. The additional 12 inches also allows for a 60" MMM, with the discharge chute up, if I want to go in that direction. It's good news all around.
