I wanted to install a overrun clutch on my L4330 PTO shaft for running my Bush Hog but the output shaft on the Kubota does not have a hole for the roll pin that holds the clutch on. Does anyone else use a overrun clutch and does my Kubota have a clutch pack for the PTO or do they use a hyd motor

If it has a clutch pack that is why I want a (ORC) over run coupler, to prevent wear on the internal clutch from the inertia of the Bush Hog blades when I lower the engine rpm.

I think you mean the PTO brake.
Many Independant PTO's have a PTO brake.
I added an overrunning clutch for the same reason you mention, to save on the PTO brake when turning off the brush mower. Also to make it easier to hook up PTO implements.
I can now turn the PTO shaft easily to line up the drive shaft splines, which was difficult to do before.

I can understand you wanting to protect your new tractor. That's a big investment!

However the PTO system is designed to handle the loads of changing engine rpm's and run-up/run-down as the clutch is engaged or released. I figure an overrunning clutch to protect the system is pretty much unnecessary and may even pose a safety concern in some situations.

The are probably hundreds of Grand L owners participating here at TBN with thousands of hours of operation. My guess is if the PTO brakes were wearing out, someone would have noticed it before now.

Thanks for the input, I believe I have solved my problem; I am going to install the ORC (over-run coupler) Hub City Inc - PTO Products on the Bush Hog itself. It does help save wear on the PTO clutch I have seen older small utility tractors (my old tractor included) with PTO clutch problems caused by the inertia from bush hog blades. Most hay balers, haybines and combines have an ORC already built in. The ORC only cost about $45.00, The six fiber and six steel clutch disc in my old Oliver 550 were ~ $35.00 each 15 years ago. Again thanks for the help; I will let you know how it works out.

Hi Wall,

Tell me more about that replaceable cutting edge and toothbar. I've got the LA853 FEL with the HD roundback bucket that has a very heavy cutting edge that is drilled about every 10-12". I was wondering what the drilled holes are supposed to be for. I was thinking that I might be able to buy bolt-in teeth (like rock guards) that I could simply bolt to the edge using these holes. Or are they to mount the replaceable edge? Where did you get the edge from? Do you need to use a tooth bar with different dimensions with the replaceable edge? Sorry for all the questions! Got any pix of your setup? Sorry for even MORE questions!

JRobyn. The holes in your 853 HD bucket are to fasten an optional HD cutting edge. Several manufacturers, i.e. Woods, sell tooth bars that will fit on a bucket with the added bolt on cutting edge. Hope this helps.
