Went to take a look at this geared tractor. (L3400) What is turning me off is that the tierods are in front of the axle. This could wreak havoc in the woods even with a fel in my mind. Is this a problem for anyone owning this tractor or does it just look that way.

I would be worried if they were located BELOW the axle, but they are above. It has never been an issue for me & I take my L3400 to some pretty radical places in the woods.

If your woods are like this, then you've made a believer in me.

Have 3400HST and 1st month of clearing land bent tie rod. Not sure exactly when or how. Finally noticed front tires tearing up grass more than in the begining and found bent rod. R/R was not a problem, just an agrivation. Two years later and lots more clearing, no more problems

While logging in the woods, I kicked up a 3-4 inch diameter log and it jammed between the tie rod and the axle. It bent the tie rod a little, but did not really affect the steering. I did end up changing it at the 50 hour service. I think a new one was around $50. I think that was just a lucky (or unlucky) instance, I'd bet money I couldn't do it again if I wanted to.

I had to slip over a reinforcing tube over my JD 750 tierod. This was behind the axle and would still get kinked all the time in these woods. I may have to take a look at the L4400. Dealer didn't have one that day. Not sure I want to go this next size up as I really need manuverability. I tried the JD 970 and that was a bit large. Dragged out twice what my 750 could do however but manuverability was an issue in tight quarters that I have. Hoping the 4400 is a bit smaller than the 970 or at least tighter turning.

Could be a problem if they were below the axle and this happens.

The 3400 I was interested in as it is about the same size as my 750 only has higher lift capabilities (capacitiy). It appears your running 11.2.s out back but their looks to be room for 12.4's. 3400's look to be one sweet tractor and strong for its size which attracted me to them in the first place. Tie rod placement turned me off for how I use my tractor. Nice looking loader Tex.

Thanks, it's an Ansung loader. The bucket is built way better than a Kubota bucket.:D
