Hi all...new to the forum.

First time tractor buyer, have narrowed it down to the Kubota 3400 and the MF 1513. Similar pricing, and I like both dealers.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I think your choice of tractors are excellent, and would base my decision of the tractors features, dealership location, service, financing, and bottom line.

I would also spend some time on each one for features that are important to you.

It would be helpful here if you gave the guys more info on the type of use for the tractor, including the terrain for tire preference, which can make a big difference?

Welcome to TBN!

As already mentioned, it would be helpful to know more about your particular application, primary tasks, etc. Are you planning to get a front end loader (FEL) or to do a lot of FEL work? Have you test driven the tractors? Are you looking at getting a 4wd or 2wd tractor? Gear drive or hydrostatic?

Am I missing something or do you mean MF-1531

Sorry guys,

Yes the MF is actually a 1531.

Both machines are 4WD and have HST.

Whichever model I purchase, I am planning on a 55 gallon sprayer, FEL, bushhogging (probably a 5' width), and a pull behind finish mower (maybe a 6' width).

My wife and I have 45 acres, with only about 12 acres clear. The 12 acres are in hay, and a neighbor cuts, rakes, and bales that for a 50/50 split.

We sold 14" diameter and larger timber off of the remaining acreage a couple of years ago, and would like to clear the remaining underbrush. Is it possible with a tractor this small to use a grapple hook with the FEL for moving the tops that were cut off the timbered trees?

There are some gentle to steep slopes on the property

Thanks again!

Are you sure the 1531 is enough tractor? Have you considered the 1533 or 1540?
I suggest you try them (get a demo tractor) on your own property and see what is more comforatable for you and ease of operation. For me it was Massey

I would also consider R-1 tires as your first choice, for two reasons...better traction, and the fact the rear wheels are adjustable, to prevent the "pucker factor," when working on those slopes.

You will also save money with the purchase of R-1's.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I am considering the R4's because I'm considering the purchase of a finish mower on the lawn. Bad idea?

Is the MF 1533 or 1540 more comparable to Kubota's L3400?

Thanks again...

The 1533 is HST, and has a little less power than the L3400 with HST. The 1540 is a gear tractor, and is a little more powerful than the L3400. Feature and option wise, I would place the MF 1500 series somewhere between the Kubota L series and the Grand L 40 series. I don't think there is enough power difference to be meaningful in comparison.

I would recommend you try out both, and see which fits you and your needs better, on your land if possible. At the same time, see which dealer fits you better - sales, parts, service, and financing. That is as important to your choice in the long run as the choice of tractor.

Good luck in your shopping, and have fun!
