kubota 2710 leaking oil from filter?

I just noticed that my tractor was leaking oil at a more than drip rate. I looked through the side panel and saw nothing. When I started it up and looked; seems like the oil was coming from underneath the oil filter. Could it be a bad filter? I got my 300 hour service done 40 hours ago( 6 months). I would have checked further but those dam side panels would not come off. How do they come off?

The top ends pull out but it is tough enough on my B2910 that I don't just pull, but rather use a flat-blade screwdriver to help. I put the screwdriver in the place at each end and twist it and the panel pops off. Do it twice, then lift the panel up and out of the way.

Putting it back on is easy, just push with the palm of your hand at each end...after slipping the little tabs on the bottom in the slots down there...

Perhaps the filter was not tightened enough and has vibrated loose...

I didn't quite catch what you said, That is pop the " U " clips out, or pry the panel **** through the clips?

Tom, I just always gave those side panels a very quick, hard jerk and they came off; might help to spray a little WD-40 or a silicone lubricant on those clips first. It always did seem to require that I jerk too hard to yank them off, but it never damaged anything.

What I meant to say was that I put the flat end of the screwdriver in between the part that comes off, and the part that stays on the tractor and twist it, and that end of the panel pops off easily without any stress on anything.

Previously I did it like bird, but when the panel popped free I worried I would smack it against the loader arms...as it took a pretty good pull. I also worried about bending the panel... which would certainly change a /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif to a /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I do the same thing, but one thing I learned is to wear gloves. The panels release...uh, quickly /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif, and I've banged my knuckles up on the FEL arms pretty good in the past. Screwdriver might be a better way to go...

As far as the leaking oil filter, there are a number of things that might cause that. The old filter gasket might have been stuck to the engine and left on - two gaskets are not better than one. The new filter gasket might not have been lubed up before attaching, so there wasn't a good seal. Or it might not have been tightened up enough, and come loose, as mentioned. That would be the easiest fix (just crank it down *by hand* real good and you're set). The other options will require that you remove the filter, and before you do that I highly recommend you drain the oil /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. No big deal, I would expect, but an obnoxious hassle since it sounds like you paid someone to do the job right in the first place.

Chris, you have to do a quick, hard jerk, but not a long one. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But yes, I learned to do it without gloves and without skinning knuckles after skinning a couple of knuckles. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yep, you got it, the dealer left the old oil gasket on. sheesh, if you can't trust the dealer , who can you trust? Their going to catch major hell tomorrow!

Wow. That would make me pretty unhappy /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Removing the old gasket is "Basic Oil Changing". Learned that when I was probably about 12. Bozos. I'd hope that your dealer refunds the money for changing the oil (at least!), since you just had to do it again to find out what went wrong...

And Bird, I have tried to do a short jerk to get the darn panels off, but there isn't a lot of clearance between the side panel and the loader arms on my little tractor. Guess I need a bigger tractor, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Until then, I'm sticking with gloves - I have enough damage to my hands and arms already with all the scratches and stuff I subject myself to. Trying to toughen up, but not there yet /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif...
