I recently got a new Kohler 7hp commander pro horizontal shaft motor and need to have it turn an impeller that is made for a tapered shaft. While it seems very simple, I can't seem to find an adapter - does anyone know where I can get one?
Thank

I am curious, could you post a picture of the impeller because there is alot of impeller applications.

Sure - with the holiday it will be at my shop until Tuesday so i can do it after that. the impeller is for an Agri fab leaf van. The old motor was not worth fixing so I was able to get a new motor cheap so now it is time to adapt....

What kind of size difference are we talking here?

Those adapters only work if the taper is LARGER than the straight shaft of the motor.

If it is smaller than the straight, no dice. But you could always have a machine shop bore it out and broach a new keyway in the impeller. I wouldnt think it would cost too much. Only looking at about 30min-hour worth of work.

You are not going to like this answer or reply. First find a machine shop that will taper the crankshaft. Remove the crankshaft from the old engine. Remove the crankshaft from new engine. Take both old and new crankshaft to the Machine shop. After getting everything back re-assemble the new engine and install on the Agri-Fab. Don't ask how I know all this. I am surprised you were able to remove the impeller without damaging it. Tapered shafts like to GLUE themselves to what ever they were mated to.

The new engine has a smaller shaft on it, so I believe having an adapter that slips over would work correctly. The engine is brand new so I really hate to start tearing it all apart to make major changes if I can possibly avoid it. The idea to have the impeller drilled out does not seem bad. Maybe have it drilled out, then a sleeve inserted to shrink it down to the new engines crank shaft size. (The old one is about 1" with the taper at the largest and the new one I think (off the top of my head) is a 3/4 straight shaft)

As a servicing dealer it is not unusual to take a brand new engine and replace the crank with a different one. Even done on warranty engine replacements when the replacement engine has the wrong crankshaft and has to be changed to the correct crank, then the dealers sent the removed crank back to the company for credit.
