Kohler Oil Filter Part # Question

I went to my CC dealre yesterday to pick up a couple of oil filters. I didn't have my manual with me, so I just told the dealer that I have the CC GT2544.

The Kohler oil filter part number listed in my manual is 12-050-08, and the dealer gave me 12-050-01S.

Can anyone verify that this is the correct filter and won't damage my machine? I did do a xref against Wix filters and both the 08 and 01S filters xref to the same Wix part number.

What I was told is that 12-050-08 is Cub Cadet's part number for Kohler's number 12-050-01S. I looked up the specs. and they are the same.

Following the official chain of parts replacement, the KH-12-050-08 is the correct part number filter to use/order for a Cub Cadet

After further review today I agree with bermunda ken that you should use the 12-050-08 if you can get it. My Cub book says to use the 12-050-08 and the Kohler manual that came with the mower says 12-050-01S. I changed the oil on mine today and had both part numbers in my hands and although they are interchangeable there must be something different for Kohler to produce two different filters. The 12-050-01S was made in India and the 12-050-08 was made in the USA.

Flip, do yourself a favor and get the x-ref of a fram PH3614 or a PH3600. I use the carquest premium version of the PH3600 on my 2544. It's a long filter. The PH3614 is short. Funny thing about "OEM" filters is, go to 3 different dealers and you get 3 different brand "OEM" filters! Some sell 'kohler' fitlers, some sell yellow 'CC' brand. You never know what you are going to get. Gimme a name brand that I can look up the specs on any time I want!

Flip, do yourself a favor and get the x-ref of a fram PH3614 or a PH3600. I use the carquest premium version of the PH3600 on my 2544. It's a long filter. The PH3614 is short. Funny thing about "OEM" filters is, go to 3 different dealers and you get 3 different brand "OEM" filters! Some sell 'kohler' fitlers, some sell yellow 'CC' brand. You never know what you are going to get. Gimme a name brand that I can look up the specs on any time I want!

I've been using the PH3614 on my 3235 for the last 2 years since we have 2 Saturns that use the same filter. I haven't tried the PH3600 although I use it on my motor home Onan generator.

FYI, the Kohler filter 12-050-01S crosses to these others -

Wix - 51056
Purolator - L35310

I'm sure either of those filters are the equal of the factory supplied filter. I'm using a Wix right now after looking at the Kohler specs and deciding the Wix was superior.

Those filters are also the same gasket face size, thread pitch etc. as a Motorcraft FL400S but the Motorcraft and the associated crosses to it are longer and have a thinner case.
