Kohler K341 Stub Shaft

Does anyone know where to get a 1" diameter stub shaft for a Kohler K341 engine? I have a running engine with an attachment on the flywheel that connects to a hydraulic pump. I'd like to use the engine in a go cart project, but the connection to the go cart drive is a 1" keyed shaft.

The question right now is how much it will cost. If it's close to the cost of the cheap HF 6.5 HP engine, I'll just get one of those.

Kohler Front Drive (Stub Shaft) 2475508-S My JD F680 zero turn uses a similar shaft ( it's slightly longer) that holds the pulley for the hydro pumps and the deck clutch. I think all the Command horizontal twin flywheels are set up to receive this shaft but not certain about the K341.

I think that first one is it. The price is a deal killer, though. I also found this one. Another $20 will get me a brand new HF engine if I watch for a sale and use a 20% coupon. The HF will mount up with less modification, too.

Knowing that your F680 takes this kind of shaft gives me hope, though. Does anyone know of other machines that might have this kind of shaft on them? I think my next move is to talk to scrappers in the area and see if I can poach a stub shaft off a junk machine.

I looked at the JD parts website and the f620 and F687 both used this shaft too if that helps. Something else you can try but will take some time is go to Kohlers parts website PBS Net-Compass and enter as "guest". Plug in the parts number (2414416S) of the shaft and on the far left it will have a menu that you can click on the + sign and a number of applications will drop down. Look for engine applications where this shaft was used. The engines are usually spec'ed for specific use by manufacturer. You can then google that engine and spec number and figure out what it was used in then try to find a junk machine. Time consuming but you can find a ton of applications for this shaft that way.

I took a few pictures just so any lurkers could see what I'm talking about.

In the second pic from the left you can see the rubber coupler thing. The last picture on the right shows the hydraulic pump.

Don't mind the random assortment of tools on the floor around the engine. I went out on a limb and posted an ad on Craig's List for anyone who wanted to trade this engine for one with a 1" shaft. I have one taker who has an old school 10 hp Briggs engine. I had to put this engine back together quickly so I could send him pictures of it. I'm still debating whether to make the trade. His is pretty old school, and it doesn't have the electric start.

There are many applications in the commercial mowers that use both ends of the crankshaft to power the machine. They use one end for the blade PTO and the other to drive the hydro pumps. I suspect that you can solve your problem by removing the current pump coupler and replacing it with an adapter shaft.:thumbsup:

I would think twice about trading a known good 16 hp K series Kohler for a 10 hp B&S.

I would check with the small engine repair shop that has the most junk out back. Also, I'll try to remember which manufacturers that I've seen use them . You might check Hustler and Exmark, but, i am sure there are others. I would expect that you could find one used.
