Kohler courage/black smoke

I have a ztr toro.
At start up it shoots a black cloud of smoke. It clears up after a couple of seconds and then no more smoke and it runs fine. Anybody else with the Kohler have this or should I take it back to the box store I bought it from.

My Kohler does the same thing, when you choke it you create a rich mixture and that is where the black cloud comes from.

Try starting it with only half choke.

Heh...Toro's with the Courage have a unified throttle/choke. I usually go to choke position and just 'bump' the starter one revolution or two, then come back to half throttle and start it up. Works for me.
