I have had a Kodiak HD8 for about 3.5 years. It's been great so far, no issues and seems well built. That said, I do not have a ton of hours on it, maybe 80-100. I did use it for about 15 hours or so a few weekends ago and my fields look great. I do wish it had a smooth deck like some of the more expensive brands, but I keep it in doors when not in use so not a big deal. I'm very happy with it for the price, only regret is not getting the 10' pull type model.

I have a MD 6'. I think the main concern in buying a cutter is to get the gearbox rating equal to or higher than your tractor's PTO hp. I tore out one on an 8' Mohawk because I didn't follow what I just said.
Other thing is chains and a stump jumper. Stump jumper is a big disc driven by the gearbox with the blades bolted to it. Upon striking something the blades deflect and if a stump or something of the sort, the concave disc just slides over them.
Chains in front a must to keep debris from hitting your tires. Some areas require chains on the rear also, city ordinance kind of thing, but chains on the rear will make your cuttings ball up and come out in lumps, not in a nice smooth windrow.
Some have the frame outside the cutting area and others inside. Outside makes for a cleaner cutting area and I prefer that.
Otherwise I don't find all that much difference for the differences in prices and colors.
