Tiller KK 6 ft tiller questions

1. The KK 6 ft tiller is for 35 hp and up, do you think it would be a problem using it on a Kubota L3400? (34 hp)

2. Does anyone know if the 6 ft KK tiller is built any sturdier than the 5ft? The web site picture is the same for both, and the closest dealer is 2 hours from me. My last 2 tillers were Kubota brand and the first one lasted 45 minutes before it broke. The second one lasted 3 hours. I'm very interested in getting one that will not break.

I'm speaking from others experience and knowledge from this board. I have a Montana with 34 hp at the pto, the KK 6' asks for 35. (it seems that all 6' want 35hp) I too am throwing around a 6' KK. The tractor will pull the tiller, but if you have really hard soil you will have to make several slower passes.
I'm looking at a china made one, at 1100, but am not as pleased with the tines, the KK has each row closer to each other.
From what I have learned, the only difference between the 5' and 6' is the extra foot, the 6' will have more tines hitting the dirt, and needs more power. Be sure of your PTO output, My tractor is a 41 HP, but being hydrostatic, it looses some HP at the pto- 34 by the book

I have the 5 foot model behind my CK35, similar power to yours, and it doesn't even phase it. I think I could run the 6 footer without problems.

1. I have a B3030, 23 HP at PTO. My 5' KKII tiller runs just fine behind that tractor. KK recommends 25 HP for their 5' tiller. So I'm 2 HP (or 8%) below their recommended minimum PTO HP.

With your L3400, you're only 1 HP (2%-3%) shy of what they recommend for minimum. I don't think you'd have any problems with that tiller behind your tractor. In other words, the L3400/6' tiller combo seems better paired than my B3030/5' tiller combo (and this combo works just fine for me).

You've also got a much larger tractor than my little B3030. I'd guess I could probably even run that 6' tiller behind my little B3030, at a little slower speed and depth.

2. I seen the 5' and 6' versions side by side at TSC many times, and I don't recall seeing any obvious differences between them, other than than width.

I have the 6ft tiller and pull it with 40hp and it does not phase what so ever. You want to just creep along when tilling the soil and it really doesnt take much hp to begin with.
Most of the time you are going to make multiple passes anyway unless you have really sandy soil.
I highly reccommend the KKII tiller as it is built like a tank. I have very rocky soils and have abused the tiller alot. It has some dents but the tines still look new just with no paint on them.

Oh and there is not difference between the 5' and 6' besides it is a foot longer and has a few more tines. I beleive the gearbox and such are the same on both (overbuilt).

Your L3400 has about 28 PTO hp for the hst version, not 34. You do know that they are typically talking about PTO and not marketing hp, right? The weight of the tractor compared to the weight of the tiller is also important for powered soil engaging equipment.

If you have pure soft loamy soil the 6' would be ok. It will strain the tractor, but be ok. After the first tillage, it will be fine. BUT. If you have tough sod bound soil, rocks, roots, hard clay and the usual trash it will beat your tractor to a pulp fast. We don't know the nature of your soil.

I've owned a 6' KKII tiller for almost 8 years now. It's been hammered and abused. Never the first whimper or sign of a problem. I've used it on a variety of tractors, and for a significant amount of acres. In fact, I've worn out one complete set of tines. The second set is probably 1/3rd of the way through their lifespan. It's spent time on a 32HP gas tractor, a 47 hp diesel, and a 60hp diesel. The latter, (60hp) saw most of the use. You'll find more expensive tillers, you'll find cheaper, but you won't find a better VALUE. King Kutter isn't my favorite brand, based on their entire product line, but their KKII tillers are top shelf.

I run a 6' KK tiller on my Mahindra 3525 (rated @ 27 PTO HP)... which runs it just fine. I wouldn't want a bigger tiller, but the 6' is not too big for it.

You'll have no problems with your 34 hp.

I have a 6' KK tiller that I run on My montana 3644 gear. It is 38 HP and 31 HP PTO. I run the tiller in very heavy clay with lots of rocks and The 6 footer doesn't ever bog my tractor down. I also ran it with my Kioti 3054 26Hp and 21 PTO Hp and it wasn't a problem with it.
The KK tiller has been vary tough and has handle rock well and even a stick of 1/2" REBAR WHICH i HAD TO CUT OF IT. I would be concerned they are tough and really don't need that much HP.

I run a 6' KK tiller on a Kioti DK 35 (34 HP and 28.5 HP at the PTO) without any problem.
I had a 5" King Kutter tiller I used for 6 or 7 years . Never had any problems with it, great tiller.
I sold the 5' and upsized to a 6' KK tiller last summer.
