Hi,

I am looking to buy my first tractor and have narrowed it down to three models from three different manufacturers:

John Deere 4052R
Kubota L5460 HST
Kioti NX5510

All tractors with loaders and backhoes.

How do those three rank in pricing, quality, maintenance, and ease of resale.

Thank you very much.

:welcome:
To the TBN forum TractorFan. You have come to the right place as we love to spend other peoples money.

A lot of people will try to convince you that their tractor is the best but you should decide based upon your needs.
Try to test drive each of those models to determine how you like each one.

A Ford vs. Chevy kind of question. There would be no general agreement on ranking 3 similar machines like that, since each is a capable, well-made machine in its own right. You would not get a bad machine with any of those choices. Recommend you study, test drive and choose the brand, the deal and the dealer based on your own preferences. Choosing a good dealer is important, particularly if this is your first tractor.

Dealer, dealer, dealer, who has been in business the longest and has a good maintenance shop.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

What RSKY says about the dealership is very true; but really doesn't tell you anything. A tractor dealership is very different (or should be, if it's a good one) to a car dealership. The salesman should sit down with you, discuss in detail what you want a tractor to do (jobs/tasks) and then sell you the tractor that you actually need. And I'm talking any brand [we call them 'colours']. Your local area tractor owners will be able to tell you who has the best reputation, especially when it comes to support (parts/maintenance)... listen to them.

The three coloured tractors that you're comparing are all good makes, with their own good/bad points that only you, by sitting in/on them, can determine. Good tractors hold their value for a long time. Yes, the final decision may come down to price but you get what you pay for, in the long run.

Enjoy the site.

Within twenty miles of your property.

The small things matter, loader controls, foot room, etc. I passed up the Deere as I couldn't afford that expensive green paint (turns out the Kubota was pretty pricy as well). When it came down to weight of the tractor I didn't realize how important ballast was, turned out my DK was heavier than the Kubota and the JD - just got lucky. But drive em all if you can, as said previously, makes a difference.

I had the same problem back in 2008 and had the same short list as you, different models though. Back then Kioti was a newer on the market brand around here but they have since shown their quality and staying power. My final choice came down to what dealer I felt the most comfortable with, good advise I got from the members here, and the advise has paid off over and over.

Agree with others.

Three very good, and very similar machines. They all spec so similar as far as I can tell, that there would be no appreciable real world differences in what they can do.

Thus your decision has to be a personal one. What tractor fits you the best? Has the better ergonomics for YOU. What dealer do you feel most comfortable with? And pricing is a pretty regional thing. Price may Trump all, so get some quotes. I'd venture a guess that the JD and Kubota are going to be pretty close in price, and the kioti a few bucks less. But since you are talking about a $40k+ machine, don't let a few thousand bucks put you into a tractor you aren't comfortable operation, or into a dealer you don't like

As others have said; all three are good tractors and will do everything you need from them. Let us know what you decide and a picture is proof.:)
