Tractor
Kioti RX6010 with FEL Schulte 3pt 7400 snowblower, Heavy duty rear blade
This is my 3rd winter with my RX6010. I've got about 360 hrs on the tractor. I've recently run into a problem with the tractor suddenly losing power and stalling after running for 3-4 minutes. Prior to the cold I added anti gel additive and haven't run into this problem before. The tractor starts right up but after running it for a few minutes it stalls or loses power. If I stop and sit still the power either comes back up or the tractor stalls. I have a 1/2 tank and was hoping for some advice on where I should start looking including possibly having condensation get into the tank and this is causing the loss of power. I've also read about a glow plug controller and potential injector problems. This problem just started when it got cold 2 days ago and I haven't experienced this problem before.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions are welcome.

thanks,

John

t. Try new fuel with a new fuel filter.

If what murphy said doesn't work, then check the self venting cap. You may be getting an airlock due to the vent in the cap being plugged with whatever.

Thanks for both suggestions. I had considered replacing the fuel filter as a possible solution as well. I plan on getting some more diesel and filling the tank up tomorrow morning to see if that helps. Moved the tractor inside to see if that helped.

Starting in a warmer garage and then going outside?

If you have "old fuel" (straight diesel 2), it may not be cut enough with diesel 1 or kerosene to prevent some waxing (like 30-50% depending on how cold it is getting)

After running funny, do you then bring your tractor back into a warm garage again?

Your temperature and environment need to be explained.

ALWAYS keep your tank full especially in the winter. Less chance of condensation getting into the tank.

@ Eric; That was the easiest I have seen the explanation for fuel gelling.

Do you have a primary and secondary fuel filter?
You may have water in there, along some rust/dirt, preventing free flow of the lighter and cleaner diesel.
It is surprising what dirt and water can do...
In this time of year, fuel system cleanliness is of the utter importance, just like using the right fuel grade.
Have a great day, and keep warm!

A majority of the time I keep my tractor inside an unheated garage, start it up, pull it out of the garage and then let it warm up for 5-10 min depending on how cold it is outside. Up until now I've not had a problem. In fact, the tractor ran fine 2-3 days prior to this cold snap when I plowed my driveway of 3-4 inches of snow. I'm going to go out and start the tractor in a few and see what happens as I pulled the tractor inside the garage and ran a pellet stove all night to get the temps near or at freezing for the night as it was -11f when I went to bed. I'm also going to try filling the tank with diesel and last night I ordered a new fuel filter which should be here in a couple of days. The only other thing would be my daughter's boyfriend may have added too much anti gel to the tank. Once I fill the tank up and run the tractor that should help sort things out.

Again, I appreciate everyone's help.

try it with the fuel cap off.

How much additive did he put in? Filling the tank up might fix your problem, most anti-gel additives by themselves will freeze, they need to be mixed correctly with diesel to work.
