hi all.
not sure the year we can't find the manual, might be on id tag somewhere. anyhow the tractor started skipping or starving for fuel when it got warm. it has new air filter, fuel filter and o ring, fuel has been drained and replaced, with some 911 added, oil checked for moisture "anti-freeze", radiator checked for oil or bubbles, checked return lines for ubstruction. I tried some other things also with no luck. it has gotten worse over time now in 20f weather it will run for about 10 min till it gets up to operating temp and then starts to act like its starving for fuel and then slowly dies. I'm not real familiar with diesel engines. I figured I would throw to post up as food for thought while I put new fuel and return lines in and maybe throw some good injector cleaner in. so it doesn't seem like a warped head or injector pump problem, if the gears were stripped on the injection pump it seems like it should do it all the time and not start, unless the fuel gravity feeded into the lines, but if that were the case I don't think it would run that long. i'm not sure if bad injectors can act up as they get warm, but that is all I can come up with. i'm banging my head against the wall on this one. thank you in advance for your time and patience any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Michael,
ab2df.

Quick check item...run the machine with the fuel fill cap loose. The breather on the cap could be bad, causing a vacuum in the fuel system.

Also, we recommend against running 911 in your tractor. 911 has been proven to greatly reduce diesel lubricity. Use the Power Service "white bottle" for anti-gelling.

Hope this helps,

thank you for the input. sorry I have researed and tried so many things I left out a lot. I did take fuel cap off, blew out return lines, and when it quit I imedidiatly pulled fuel line going into injector pump and had good fuel flow.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

You say that you've drained the tank, but have you put an inspection camera down into the tank and looked for anything that can obstruct the flow of fuel?

How many hours on the engine? Have you considered a compression test?

Have you tried bypassing the tank and filter by pulling fuel directly from another fuel source, like a portable tank? That should tell you if there's an issue with your fuel delivery system.

We need both fuel and air. Have you checked to make sure there isn't any obstructions in the air filter and inlet rube. Mice love to nest in the filter housing and inlet tubes. The engine will act "starving", just starving for air.

Excellent recommendation. I've had wasp nests cause a number of issues with my equipment. For some reason, they always want to build nests (dirt daubers) on my exhaust pipes. It doesn't go well for them the next time I crank up whatever it is I'm working with.

Time to open up the air filter...and be prepared to run!
