Tractor
LS XR4040, International 240, Ford 8n, wheel horse d-180
We're looking to replace our older International 240. Its been a good tractor but as its not very common replacing parts is always an issue. We have just over 50 acres of country property at our weekend place. The property is hilly but the area we mow is mostly flat.. except for one area which is very hilly (about 2 acres)... We mow about 6 acres with a 6 foot finish mower, use the backblade and slip bucket for about a mile of driveways and a middle buster and two bottom plow once in a while for gardening and adding drainage where needed.

We wanted to add a loader to our equipment for sometime. Mostly for moving gravel when working on the driveways but eventually maybe getting a grapple of some sort for moving trees (we cut and hand split about 10-15 cord a year of maple, ash and cherry). We live in the snowbelt of Western New York so adding a snowblower down the road was also in the cards... Right now we dig out by hand 600 feet of driveway and snowshoe everywhere else. Last year the deepest we had to clear was just over 3 feet... in past years we have had up to 5 one the ground. Figure the loader bucket would be needed for that to help. We're not getting any younger :)

We have a Kioti dealer in our town. Because of this I was looking at the Kioti ck35. My father in-law stopped in and asked about pricing on a 35hp model and they said about $20k. He's not a details man. When I asked if that was for a ck, ds or dk, which all have 35hp models, he was not sure... I also asked if that included tax and he wasn't sure about that either... so I have some footwork to do on that still

I have a couple of friends that have Mahindras and like them a lot... there is a dealer for them not to far from our city place and another about 30 minutes from our country place. I was planning on looking at the 1533 or the 3535 models but have not stopped in...

My father-in-law through a monkey wrench in when he found this online : 2015 John Deere 3038E

We had ruled out John Deere because of price early on... but this seemed like a good deal. We could use the trailer as we rent one a couple of times a year now. We could also put the box blade to use so thats a plus. We have an old brush cutter but I need to weld up several holes in it so replacing it and selling the old one isn't to bad.

So the question is how does the 3038e stack up against a Kioti ck35 or a Mahindra 35hp model? We liked the idea of getting a John Deere hoping that in the long run parts would be available... We're paying cash so financing deals don't really matter too much...

We are in the early phases of tractor shopping... We also have an ls dealer local and I might stop in there and check them out.

thanks in advance...

I don't think the 3038E stacks up even remotely well to either the CK35 or the Mahindra 1533. The 3038E is like 1,000lbs lighter, and has significantly less 3pt lift, FEL lift height and capacity, etc, etc. The Mahindra 3535 is an even worse comparison as it's yet another 1,000lbs heavier, so double the weight of the 3038E. The two things I dislike about the 3038E are the two-range transmission, and the fact that the rear end housing is aluminum....not what I want on a tractor.

I don't own one, but have almost bought a Kioti the last two times I went tractor shopping. I avoid supporting companies from India, for a variety of reasons, but Mahindra does make a good machine.

I am a Mahindra guy, have 2 of them and they are great machines. If I was in your shoes, I would be looking at the Kioti and LS machines. Also, bump up a frame size and go with a 40hp machine. HUGE difference in capabilities for only a little more money. ;)

Just my :2cents:

Thanks. .. I found the pamphlet for the kioti an it was a ck35... so the local guy says he's at 20k which from what I read is high. ..

going to check out LS... the local place has a 33hp with detachable backhoe for $23k... a backhoe was not a requirement but it would make stump removal and drainage ditch easier

Kioti is a good tractor. I would forget the Deere. That is an economy version that is lighter, less loader lift, less hydraulic flow, a non-detachable loader, 2 range trans. Vs. 3, loader valve mounted on loader vs. Integrated w/ the tractor. Also, vs. the CK, the CK has telescoping draft links, pin adjust 3pt. arms, tilt wheel, floor mat, Q.T. Loader, skid steer quick attach bucket and more features. The Kioti is a full featured tractor where the 3038e is an economy no feature tractor. Yet about the same price. Kioti is great value for the money.
Mahindra in that size tractor is made by Mitsibishi.

I second looking into a 40Hp machine as I feel it would be better suited to your needs.
Also agree with Gmanbart that the 3038 is not really a good buy and the aluminum rear housing would be a definite deal breaker for me not even taking into consideration anything else about it.
I liked many of the Mahindra tractors but some of them just felt cheep and a few had small problems apparent just sitting on the lot. I did some research and every single one I found something wrong on was one of their models that was made in India so based on that and the experience with testing their other machines made in Japan and some that are rebadged TYM machines if I went with Mahindra it would be one of the latter made in Japan or Korea.
I liked all the Kioti tractors I looked at but could not like the single HST pedal on the smaller machines like the CK35 but found myself very at home on the DK40 so that is what I purchased.
Good luck and have fun shopping!

thanks all... as much as I'd like to step up to 40hp we are probably going to stay with 35hp... we are trying to pay cash and that where our budget puts us... the local LS dealer has a G3033 with a backhoe for $23k... still need to get over there but I really like the idea of getting a backhoe... would make adding drainage to the driveways a whole lot easier...

Hard to resist a backhoe... but you might want an adjustable back blade instead. Everything Attachments 6 Way Deluxe Scrape Blade for Compact Tractors with 25-50 HP V2.0I got a backhoe to maintain the ditch along our street... but one side is the berm so I can't straddle the ditch. The backhoe isn't working when I'm alone (with someone else driving while I operate the 'hoe it works pretty well).

Big price difference, and I think you'll find more uses for the blade.

well back to my old thread... we just ordered a LS xr4040... I figured you only live once... got it with loader, a LS 66" box scraper, loaded tires, 50 hour maintenance and delivered 50 miles out to our place out the door for $23,500... a bit more then others get around the country but we got NYS taxes to deal with... next year will get the backhoe... planning on getting a pto chipper this year as well...

we're going on vacation for two weeks this weekend... it will be delivered when we get back...
