Holy Winter! Just got slammed today and am using the CK20 to plow for the first time. The first 40 minutes it was in PTO, fast, working great. After about 40 minutes, I would be pushing snow, then backing up, and moving front end loader, and all the sudden is slips out of PTO to sometimes middle RPM, or low RPM, and twice it stalled.

Never happened before using it for other things. I am not sure if I am pushing it too hard, or if it has something to do with the cold. It's not overheating, and I checked hydraulic fluid, and it's fine. Is there something I could be missing? A button, gear or lever?

Still a newb to this tractor and have no idea how to address this. I stopped to let her rest, and I have about another hour of work to do out in the field for my goats and don't want it to die out there.

Any idea, or suggestions?

Someone with a Ck must answer this as I think "why are you in PTO for plowing"? And slips to RPM?

My neighbor told me I needed to be at max rpm (PTO) to plow.. Like I said, I am still learning this thing.

When I say the RPM is slipping, I mean it's going high, then it suddenly drops.

What am I missing?

What attachment are you using? Snowblower? (Front or 3 point?) Front snow blade? Bucket loader?

PTO suggests that you are using a snowblower.

Please paint a complete picture for us.

I am using a bucket loader to do it, front

When I say being "in pto" I thought just at max throttle, so that the line on the RPM matches up to where it says PTO

I just tried again, no matter how high or low I have the throttle set, it keeps going at a steady RPM and then slows then goes up again, and sometimes stalls completely. Could not be worst timing.

Not sure about a CK but on my DK 35, the PTO spot on the tach means the engine revs required for proper use of the Power Take Off, (PTO, aka the splined shaft sticking out the back of tractor). It has no purpose for normal tractor driving or loader operations in snow clearing operations if you are not using a device hooked to the PTO. I am thinking that what is happening is that you have revs set at PTO speed but when the tractor engages with the snow that you are actually trying to shovel with the bucket, the tractor is becoming "loaded" and the revs drop off until you ease the load. I would suggest you are better off using the tractor in manual speed control, (foot pedal rather than setting revs with hand control), meaning go as fast as you can safely and efficiently work the tractor. Hope this helps, Please advise if this is not the case you are experiencing and provide more details in order that we can better assist you.

Also, if you are saying the engine drops revs while just driving with no extra load or work being done, I would think you have a fuel delivery isue. Possible filter or bad (i.e. gelled fuel). Your tractor should not be changing revs on it's own if no change in load has caused it.

Maybe gelling fuel, it being pretty cold. Try some power service 911, guys have good luck with that, or similar de-gelling additive. I run Power Service white year round in mine, have no gelling issues. Add as directed. Some heat on the fuel may help in the short term; be careful how. Nothing deader than a gelled diesel. Unless one on tracks.

Avondale. Are talking about the clutch? I only use the clutch ever when starting the tractor, after that it's just the throttle, and food pedal. Not sure what you are saying, because I can't go fast unless in full throttle.

Jimmy, I will try that. It;s 11 degrees today so that could be the issue, but I would have expected it to begin from the start and didn't happen until 40 minutes of work, would this still potentially be the cause?

Thanks guys! Keep em coming ifyou have ideas.
