Greetings

Beginning farmer looking for some advice on the King Kutter Heavy-Duty Rotary Kutter 72in. Cutting Width, Model# L-72-60-HD .

I will be using it for overgrown pastures at this time. Later it may be used for 1 in saplings and brush. I use a Hew Holland 70 hp on the pto .

Suggestions and advice needed.
Thanks

What is it you want to know ?
You have plenty of tractor for a 72" HD cutter....make sure you have the slip clutch option and safety chains front and back of the machine

How wide is your tractor and how many acres will you be mowing? You have enough HP to handle a wider cutter, but a wider cutter is going to be more expensive.

Mowing 10 overgrown acres. Tractor is 6ft wide. The price on this is $2300. it has a slip clutch, no safety chains. Weighs 1100 lbs.
Is this good value for the money. I checked other brands , similar in specs, but they were much higher priced.

I can't speak to the quality of the mower, but it apparently has a 60 HP gearbox. My personal preference would be to have a gearbox HP that is at least as high as the tractor PTO HP.

In looking over the recommended tractor PTO requirements for cutters from various manufacturers, most recommend a maximum PTO HP that is less than or equal to the gearbox HP.

If you go with that cutter you would want to make sure that you either have the proper adjustment on the slip clutch or use the appropriate grade shear bolt. Of course, that advice always applies.:)

Good luck.

I would not buy anthing from king cutter JUNK! spend the money on a name brand.

I think I would hold off buying the King Kutter and look for a good used name brand. You probably will be happier in the long run.

I pretty much agree with the previous posts, however .... I have had good luck with Kingkutter rotary cutters. a 4' on a Shibaura 1500A), then a 5' on a John Deere 850. No thinking about getting a 6' for my 40 hp New Holland. I have cut lots of brush, mostly 1" but some 1 1/2". It runs and smooth, cuts well. I have had no regrets.

I have no doubt that a Landpride or a Bush Hog would be built better, but i didn't want to spend the extra $$. So to a large degree, it boils down to personal choice or personal finances. Whatever you buy, just don't beat the heck out of it. You will run into enough stumps, rocks and wire as it is unintentionally.

King Kutter is a brand and "cutters" built their brand.

I had a standard duty 48" King Kutter Rotary Cutter that was extremely robust. And I was the third owner.

Virtually all Rotary Cutter gear boxes, bearings and blades are imported in bulk from two factories in China. Different weights of components are imported. My Land Pride RC has 'Made in China' cast into the gear box cover.

When you buy a brand of Category 1 or Category 2 USA Rotary Cutter you are buying the housing and assembly expertise and…... component weight…….from China.

This is NOT to say spending for a HD R/C Vs Standard Duty R/C is not worthwhile if you need to cut >1-1/4" saplings.
