KING KUTTER 5' ROTARY MOWER MAKING NOISE

i just bought a King Kutter 5' rotary mower this week. After the first use of about an hour I shut the tractor down and while the mower was spinning down to stop I noticed a clicking noise that seemed to go with the blade speed. Is this noise common? I called King Kutter and they said when they are new you can get that noise. I didn't see anything stuck underneath that would be making the noise. It almost sounds like the gear box. Does anyone else have one? is it quiet on "spool down" or does it click? Thanks

I believe the gears in the gear box are bevel cut so there should be no noise, oil level full?? do you have a over run clutch on the pto shaft that is the only clicking on spool down that i can think of. IF you lift up to look underneath for fencing or something stuck in it be sure to use jack stands to support the mower.

I will take a better look tonight. I did spin one at the dealer and I don't remember it making any noise. Maybe tonight I'll take off the PTO shaft and inspect for wire or ?????. Thanks

There is nothing stuck down by the blade to make noise. When I spin it by hand I can hear the gears meshing pretty loudly. The sounds is more of a klunk,klunk,klunk noise. I don't think it's normal. Does anyone else have a King Kutter and is it relatively quit or does it "klunk" when spun by hand?

I have the 5 ft KK rotary mower too - mine has the shear pin on the drive shaft. I bought it new about a year ago and have never heard the noise you are describing. I get a clunk and a quick shake of the tractor when engaging the PTO but that is normal based on what I have read elsewhere.

Just read your latest post. Mine makes no noise when turning the drive shaft by hand.

I bought a 6' Flex Hitch about two weeks ago. Used it for about 6 hrs the first day and all seems well. I don't have any type of noise, like you described. Actually for the price, I thought it is a pretty decent mower. It reallt cut some pretty thick stuff. Hope you find out what if anything is wrong

I think it's just the noise they make. I went back to the implement store and spun a couple other ones there and they all made the same " gear noise". I guess they have a 1 year warranty and I hope if something breaks loose it's within that time. Thanks for the replys
