Kerosene additives

I have about 30 gallons of Kerosene I salvaged from a tank that supplied fuel for an old mobil home. The Kerosene is probably 5 years old and I used it last year in my torpedo heater without any problems. I now have the furnace from that mobil home in my garage and I want to use the Kerosene in it but was wondering if there is anything I should add to the Kerosene?

This Kerosene is dyed red, what does that mean?

It's intentionally died red to identify it as non-road use. the tax guys worry that truckers are using kerosene in their diesel rigs.

It should be ok to use as is. The main concerns I would have after 5 years would be water that had condensed in the tank and bacterial growth there might be.

My concern is bacterial growth also. It is in a plastic drum and when I look inside the bottom appears to be pretty dark. It may just be sediment from the tank it was pumped out of but I'm not sure. Last year I siphoned out about 15 gallon to use in my torpedo heater and it worked fine, but I'm not sure about running it through the furnace.

What kind of filter do you have on the furnace fuel system? Is it one of those old style cotton cartridges or a real fuel filter? If it's one of the old style cotton cartridges it will filter it out but since they are so small it will plug up rather quickly.
