Hi,all! Am looking for a utility vehicle and would like your input. Primary use would be getting my family around the 70 acre farm, plus basic utility work (checking and repairing fence lines, etc.). People include up to 2 adults and four kids. Kids are young, but one is 10 and will enjoy driving. Requirements: limited top speed, ability to haul 2 adults, one 10 year old kid, and 3 small kids, good reliability, and some bed space. I have a tractor for heavy work. Also need something quiet so we can all talk with the engine on. I can't have a go-fast vehicle because I couldn't let my son drive it unsupervised- absolute deal-killer. Terrain is not too rough. (Would certainly consider an exhaust silencer if you guys recommend one.) I think the Kawasaki Mule 4010 trans in gas is the leading pick here, but I'm open to your suggestions. Thoughts? Thank you!!!

We are looking for something similar. I'll be watching your thread! :)

The 617 cc fuel injected engine in the 4010 is super reliable. Good power too. As far as being able to talk over it, it depends. All utvs are a little noisy, and it ain't the exhaust per say. The cab isn't noise insulated from the engine like a passenger car or truck.

I recently shopped hard for 4 seater utility UTV. The 4010 was at the top. We ended up going Polaris, but the 4010 is no slouch.

I have a 3010 Transport. The 4010 has power steering , more HP, generally a improvement over the 3010. The transport will carry all of your group safely and seated (throw the dogs in the back). The bed is versatile and can be enlarged for heavy, long hauling. It has a High Low tranny, so low for the kiddies while learning to drive. My son learned to drive on mine.
great for working around the farm or just family fun. Put a winch on it, throw a shovel and some chains into the trunk and enjoy hunting, fishing, working or just family riding.

In my opinion-

I have a 2010? diesel Mule and if the new "Mules" are anything like mine, you do not need to worry about speed! It's more like a truck or tractor than a ATV with a bed. Built like a tank, with limited suspension travel. The "U" in UTV is it's primary function. (utility). Being a diesel, with a Curtis cab is not very quiet, but tolerable at 6 mph or so. The electric Polaris UTV is the quiet way to go! When (if) my Mule ever dies, I'll be looking for an old jeep or Toyota p.u. to replace it with the crazy cost of these things.

I went polaris ranger 500 crew. I too was concerned about speed and you can get a "speed key" to limit it but so far, I don't feel we need it. Keep it in low gear and our place has enough rough terrain you can't get the speed above what the limiter keeps you to anyway.

I've been on mules both gas and diesel and they're all about the same noise wise.

What I will tell u is b/w the two, the ranger is much more enjoyable to drive over terrain with its suspension vs mule and it is nice to have the speed if you want it.

I have about 15 hrs on it and think I made the right choice for me.

Now if I can ever get the keys away from my kids....

HTH,

J
