1996 Bayou 300 2WD. I have had a oil leak for about 2 years now and really wanna get it fixed. It drips on the left foot rest just under the pull crank. What could this be, just a gasket? easy fix?

I'll take a stab at this. The recoil should be on the left side and if you pull the recoil assembly off there is a gasket that seals that against the engine case. Here is the problem if there is oil coming out of there that means that the oring behind the drive hub is leaking. You'll have to remove the hub and replace the oring then reassemble. Not terribly hard but I not sure of your mechanical aptitude. You will have to be the judge of that.

is the oil coimin out of the pull crank houseing or is it leaking from the next part over and running down the crank ? i had a bike that the inside of the crank housing cracked i fixed it with some baker-loc stuff my dad had and it held up ok til i traded it. did you ever wash the engine down to see the point of where the oil is comin from?

I checked it this weekend, the oil is dripping out of the pull crank case. Is there a gasket inside there? I havent pulled it off yet due to time, where can I get parts? Im not near a Kawasaki Dealer

Parts fisce are available on line for you to look up your parts. You can order online and have them shiped to your house. I do it all the time because I work when the dealer is open so I don't have to take off work to get my parts.

I have just gotten around to actually working on this issue. One question before I start, Do I need to drain the engine oil before I pull the pull crank case off?? i do not need to make the wife upset with a load of oil on garage floor. May be a silly question, but it would be nice if I could just pull it off and inspect instead of draining all oil.

well you could do like i used to do and that is put the atv on it's side or lean it over and remove the cover that way most if not all the oil will go over to the side and will not drain out . i used to do this with atv's and motor bikes . . just make sure the gas cap is on tight so it won't leak gas out the tank . you should be ok though.
