I have a friend from my former military days who lives in the midwest and used to give me major grief about Florida and Hurricanes. They left for a week long vacation in Hawaii two days ago. Enough said....

They MUST have been aware of the coming storms - if not, I wish them the best. I think a lot of airlines have shut down flights to Hawaii. They will have some exciting stories to tell you about their vacation.

Yup, they knew, but for some reason either couldn't or didn't cancel. I don't know what the whole story is as I just happened to see a picture of them on the flight to Hawaii in Facebook and some of the comments. I'm sure your right that more info will be shared!

I was stuck in the Bahamas once when a storm got into the area faster than we thought and the airline shut down. It was not a bad two days as the hotel we were at opened the bar for the duration and the storm didn't even shut down the electric there.

Well, we were in Hawaii when a tsunami hit. We were out exploring the mountains on the big island and missed all the excitement. From what I saw when we returned, that evening, I don't think it was much of an event - fortunately.

For a while, during WWll, my dad was stationed at a base near Orlando. All I remember of Florida, every evening when it cooled down it would rain, like the end of the world, for an hour or so and the humidity - wholly c**p!!

One day my mom & I got on a city bus to ride home - I ran to the back of the bus and started talking to a very nice gentleman there in the back of the bus. The bus driver stopped the bus and had my mom bring me up to the front of the bus. I never figured out why until many years later.
