the right size tractor for the average use....... someone wants just a little more than I think I want to do with it. I have a running ad where I do lightweight tractor work, Bush hogging small lots up to 3-acres garden plots landscaping smoothing moving small amounts of dirt, You know the things we all do with our 18-25 hp tractors, I recently had a man ask if I could bush hog his 10 acres and flatten some 4 ft mounds and drag his 1/2 mile gravel driveway on his property,.... I had to tell him that I didn't want to subject my tractor to this much work, He asked if I have considered getting a larger tractor? and that I most likely could get more work:cool:
I told him I might just have to do that if the demand for heavier duty work picks up, I haven't been doing to bad on just the 3/4 acre overgrown subdivision lots, is much better using a CUT tractor to get up close to things, and with having a small FEL sure comes in handy when needing to move or load up scrap piles of junk laying around,.... I think if I traded off My smaller tractor for a larger one I would loose the small jobs, because folks like to see me using smaller equipment, their just not quite as Leary to see a man on what they think is no more than an overgrown lawn tractor appose to using a large AG tractor;) some of these folks think with having large tractors near their homes is not a good idea and I tend to agree;)
although on the other hand having a larger tractor could mean potentially more work, but then I'd have to get a larger trailer and larger implements etc, etc, and Oh yeah My tractor doesn't stay outdoors, so would have to build a larger barn:cool: Hmmm Sounds like getting a larger tractor could have a snowball effect:D

I went through the same situation with my miniexcavator. I got a larger one and I had to get a diesel truck, larger trailer, etc. Long story short, I now have a mini again and it is doing what I really need. Also I am not butting heads with the larger companys that have more equipment. It is like I told my son, he wanted a Bobcat. I told him to rent one when he needed it for year first. When it all boiled down, he couldn't have even made the payments on it with the work that he got for a year.

Why trade, two tractors is always better than one. :D:thumbsup:

There is no way at the current time I could own 2 tractors:cool: I was just wondering what opinions y'all might have toward getting rid of your smaller tractors in order to get a larger one to have the ability to do more work?
I know many of us including myself have give testimony on how great our Cut tractors can perform beyond its' intended design and capabilities , But when it actually comes down to doing more consistent work then it is designed to do on average daily use just how long will our tractors last? certainly not the risk of a costly repair, as Most of you already know My FEL is much heavier Duty than the tractor itself, so I have to minimize the weight I put into it and the actual use of it, I do however see myself sometimes pushing on with the tractor and keeping my fingers cross:eek: that nothing will break, I'm not one to abuse my tools, But I feel as time goes on I might become over confident and let my guard down resulting in breaking something expensive,

I think I may have worked out a deal with someone who has a larger 30 hp.tractor (kubota L2800) that will do the heavy work, for now i can still keep my smaller Yanmar to do the lighter work just as I have been doing:thumbsup: although the possibility of me getting a larger tractor might be in my future,

I have a prediction that the folks in previous years who would grow their tomatoes in 5 gal buckets or would have small 20'x30' garden plots will soon want larger gardens and will be needing larger plots plowed ultimately leading need of a larger tractor;) I remember back in the 60's when My Grand Parents had several acres, Many of them in Corn and Beens alone
and rows of tomatoes and okra, etc,...no one would of thought about having a single tomato plant in a 5 gal bucket. :D
we all would help contribute time at the farm throughout the week if not but for an hour or so and help to work the Garden, and then on Sunday Grandma would put together a Fine Meal for us all with the vegetables grown from the garden,
we were self sufficient back then, and allot of us do still remember how to get by and feed our families without having to purchased things from over the counter:D
I think the days of large family gardens might be coming back soon;)

I hear that!

I went a little bigger from the start for that exact reason! I know from everything I ever did seems like I wish I had gone a little further to start with and I wanted only one machine and am glad I did now.

I agree on the bigger family gardens btw that's just what I see around here I tilled and prepped several big gardens for people last year and I expect this year will be even more calls.

For me its not as much getting a bigger tractor as wanting different types of equipment such as a mini-ex and a small dozer.
