I have some wooded land on the farm with hardwoods and many fallen branches from the drought we have had for years as well as Ice storm last year and also much undergrowth that my tractors are not equipped to handle. We also have a severe Privite problem...it is worse than Kudzu and miscellaneous vines. He is also going to work the fence lines and the pond area.. I got several quotes , one was $325.00 per hr. ( LOL) and another was $200.00 and this fella started at $175.00 but agreed to $150.00 per. hr...He operates a Posi Track - RC -100 like this one with the same mulcher head.> ASV RC-100 Brush Mulching & Forestry Packages - I will take before and after pictures and post them.

It is just too cold here - 7 deg. with wind chill and also wet from many recent rains, with snow forecasted for this Thursday...so it may be a week or more before we get it done. If any of you fellas have any suggestions on post mulching treatments I need to do to keep it from growing back or anything else it will be appreciated.

Do you plan to pasture the land? Or plan to mow it?

If not one or the other, maybe will have to spray on a regular basis.

Just curious , what machine was the guy who quoted $325ph running ? He may have been much faster if it was a bigger machine and may have been cheaper in the long run .

Afterwards you either need to spray or keep cut with a bushog or something because it will grow back!! Send some pictures we like pictures!!
Is he working on it now?

Really most of the mulching will be to clean up woods in one 2 ac. area and another around the lake and then along fence lines and pasture edges to take out Privet..which grows like a weed here - I suppose I will have to both spray and bush hog depending on the area.

I am not sure what machine he uses but he said it was big and the cutter was huge so I did not go any further with him since his machine would not be able to maneuver between the trees I want to save and the ones that are to be taken out. From the way he described his machine it would be overkill for my farm..he said it could take down anything and that was a red flag for me . I have a several Oaks that I guarantee he could not take down. LOL

Brin,
I just had 10 acres of 3-4YO clear cut mulched here in AL. Same machine, same price. I had pine stumps every few feet and regrowth from hardwoods. It took my mulcher three 8hr days spread over a month and half because of the rain we've had. The smaller machines may be a little slower, but they can also get into tighter places. Most important though, is their footprint impact. Those smaller machines with rubber tracks barely left a tread mark even with muddy ground. A big skidder type machine would have left ruts all over the place that I would have to smooth out. Mine looks like he spread bags of mulch all over the ground.
