Just picked up my first tractor, a Ford 1000 with a 770 loader. It has 1600 hours and is in real nice shape. It has the original paint, but some surface rust is showing thru. I will change all fluids, service and then begin the repainting process. Any thoughts and recommmendations would be welcomed. I have a few questions: Any place to get the decals? Does anyone have a manual for the loader? I am waiting for the owners manual..... is Rotella 15/40 a good oil for the engine? It does get to 0 degrees occasionally around here. What type of tranny/ hydraulic fluid will I need? Lift capacity for the loader? Thanks

I will repeat the welcome.

I bought my 1700 new in '81 and have always considered it to be a quality machine, though now the years have necessitated some updates and repairs.

The lift capacity of my Bush Hogloader is 700#, yours is likely similar.

The diesel needs some cold weather considerations. I add about 15% kerosene when the temps are freezing or below - cheap insurance. If you run out of fuel, it is quite a task to get things bled out, but after a gel up - real torment!

I've found a block heater effective below 20 degrees, and try to park out of
the wind if not in a shelter.

The power service tip above is good. The new diesel fuels don't have the lubricity the old blends had. Dddaytives are now pretty much no question. They're all good, differences slight, but power service is available at "Wally World" at a reasonable price.

I have use Rotella oil, my last oil change was with Amsoil. Pricey, but, as the blond said, "I'm worth it."

Enjoy, be safe.

If I remember right the 1300,1500,1700 shared the frame and thus lift capacity. The 1000,1100 and 1200's were less capacity.

Thanks for the advice so far. Any place I can get decals? Are there more active forums for these machines? Doesnt seem to be too much discussion about these machines.

I never could find an immersion type engine block heater for my 1100. I used a return radiator hose heater with good effect. Jay

My brother has a Ford 1000 that he is redoing. He went to a New Holland dealer and they were able to located all the decals. It took a lot of time and they were very pricy. He got his about 3 to 4 years ago. I have a Ford 1300 that I use for mowing and snowblowing. It is a smaller tractor then the 1000.
