My wife and I just bought our dream property, a 78 acre ranch where we will build a home next year. Most of the acreage is fenced pasture for beef cattle, with a 20 foot trail between the inner and outer fences which will need spraying and maintenance, as will the 1/2 mile of 20' gravel road. I am going to GC the house build, so I anticipate some limited use during that project, and then discing and landscaping once its up.

My starting point is the JD 4310, because it seems like a good all around machine based on my research so far. It seems pretty close to the Kubota 3430 I have been renting on my current 5 acres and which I found to be pretty effective for my needs with a reservation or two. If these two are, in fact, comparable, I'd like to hear preferences.

Admittedly, this is the only tractor I have operated, so my comparisons and experiences are probably way off. I'd appreciate any advice. The harvest rental returns are coming in to the dealers around here (the local Deere dealer has used 4410's and 4310's and 779's.) I'd also appreciate suggestions on older equivalent tractors in case my wife experiences sticker shock! One I saw was an MF 1035, 1988 model in decent shape, 4wd and FEL, for 11,500 at a dealer. There is also a JD 510C turbo-diesel, FEL, backhoe, good cond in the paper here for 4500.

Thanks a bunch! <font color="blue"> </font> <font color="blue"> </font>

This is just my opinion, but I would look more at the 4410 to compare to the 3430. My brother has a 4310 and I have an L3400. I think the 4310 is a great tractor, but if you have been using a 3430 I believe you would be happier with a larger tractor. All the tractors youi mentioned could work well for you, but I believe you should size up a bit.

The 4310 is a great starting point - good combination of power, capability and comfort. See my other posts about my quest for a tractor that ended happily with the delivery of my 4310.

I know this sounds stupid, but I can't figure out how to get to your other posts. Would you direct me? Thanks, Bill

Just a heads up. A Deere 510C is a full size tractor loader backhoe. The backhoe isn't removable and the machine is about 70-80ish hp and would weigh a little over 15,000lbs.

Would be handy for the house building but might be overkill for most other things around the place.
