With the cold weather coming on and the increase in discussions of various snow removal equipment, why don't those of us who live where snow is not a problem (we sure don't need no snow equipment in Florida) share what things we have bought with the money we DID NOT spend on snow removal equipment :thumbsup:

If we had all that snow removal stuff ... we probably would not have a boat.

And at the other extreme, there is no suitable snow removal equipment to buy for your tractor, either.

"All that snow removal equipment" cost me less than $2000, with maintenance about $100/yr over the life of the equipment.

Your $2000 boat must be cute! - and I don't know anyone who's kept anything bigger than a jon boat floating for $100/yr.

Personally, I like blowing snow a lot more than cutting grass.

Well I don't get enough snow to blow and I don't have a boat ... whoa ... we do have a paddle boat !!!

If I get to much snow I'll use the FEL ... Snowblowing looks like a blast... if I was in snow country you can bet I'd own a snow blower.

Even though I dont get much snow in Arkansas, I have lived in Canada where snow removal is required in order to get your vehicles in and out. I did have a boat when up there and used it lots more there than here AND I had a lawnmower. Grass still grows in the spring and summer there. So IMHO you have to work year round doing something. In Ark. grass mowing ceases around Oct when the frost kills the grass back and we dont start back till March or April so we have some free time whereas snowbirds work all year round. When it comes to buying stuff, I think we all buy till we have no more place to put stuff then we build a larger storage area and buy some more regardless of where we live. Up in Canada everyone where we lived had snowmobiles, boats, ATVs and of course 4 wd vehicles and SNOWBLOWERS!!!

Here I dont need snow equipment so I got my Kubota 900 RTV which for me is indispensible for use around the farm. I put over 60 hours on it this year already so that is my purchase rather than snow equipment and the golf carts for the wife. I use the RTV for stretching wire, and lifting equipment with the winch, even used it to pull start my BIL JD tractor the other day.

I kind of like the idea of having a cold/freezing part of the year. It keeps all the pests like really bad bugs and a lot of snakes and such from getting too prolific. BTW, all I paid for my 7.5 ft blower was 400 dollars, can't buy much of a boat for that. The biggest thing about having a long snow season is the extra feed you have to put up for livestock to make it through and the extra work feeding it out. Oh to be a grasshopper and play a violin.
