Will be using the bucket for snow removal this year. My driveway is about 350ft, but it's in pretty rough shape. A mix of 3 different sizes of gravel, and the peak in the center is too high in some places. Didn't want to spend all winter fighting with the cutting edge on the bucket digging in, so fabricated a makeshift "edge saver".

Think this will work for one winter, until I get a proper plow for next year? It's a bit short, cuz I just got the pipe out of a dumpster...but I figure since the center of my driveway is the high spot, the corners shouldn't dig in anyway.

Looks good. Nice welds.

Hey, Cheese, that looks great. Unless you do something serious - that will probably last longer than a year. 350 foot driveway won't be that tough with the bucket. You are very smart to wait and get a good, heavy blade. I have a mile long gravel driveway and a VERY heavy rear blade that does year round maintenance on the driveway.

This is my tractor and Rhino 950 rear blade - at rest in the carport. Rear blade is - 96" & 1100 pounds. View attachment 575448

I’d make or buy these-

Edge Tamer Full Video - YouTube

I don’t think your setup will help on gravel. It would probably do good on asphalt or pavers though.

After the first snow fills in the rough spots it will be a lot easier. We freeze roads down every winter to truck wood on, that you can barely drive a pickup down in the summertime.

JMHO but, if a narrow "edge tamer" bolted on each side of the bucket is going to work and stop the bucket from digging in - so will that bolted on metal tube that runs the full width of the bucket.

Come on guys - consider the overall weight per square inch being applied to the gravel driveway via each method.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm hoping it will work decently. I know about the edge tamers, but because the center of my driveway is a good bit too high, I figured those edge tamers might not work as well, since there'd still be lots of exposed cutting edge between the tamers.

I know the pipe I made isn't going to get the driveway completely clear of snow, just figured it'd be the best option for preventing the edge from digging into the high center. It's getting cold here quickly, I'll be sure to let you all know how it works when the snow starts flying.

You can buy "Edge Tamers" individually.
Having one at each outer edge of your bucket, and one more in the middle would work just fine.

Three different size gravel and the middle is high, I think the idea of the tube the length of the bucket will work better than tamers..
