Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

I have 3.25 acres. A little under half is wooded. I am building on it right now and it has to be bushhogged, cleared out, tilled and seeded sometime in the next month or 2. I have a small moutain of dirt that needs to be moved and spread and a 150-200 ft gravel driveway to maintain. Eventualy I'd like to clear the rest of the land off some so it's more usable. Also, this tractor is going to mow our yard.

I got the TC30 4WD with the NH FEL. for $14900. I seriously considered Corriher, but with shipping it was 13900 and that was with a Bushhog FEL, the local dealer would come down to 14600 with the Bushhog FEL, but talked up the NH so we decided to keep it. So we decided that the extra 700 would be worth the service. The dealer is about 60 miles away from where we are building our house and if we have any problems for the first 2 yrs, they are supposed to come to our place and get the tractor, fix it, and return it to us. Is this the norm for service?

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

I looked at a TC-30 but ended up buying the Deere equivalent, the 790. My acreage is pretty close to yours, but I do maintain part of a neighbor's field.

Maybe you did buy a little too much for the tasks you wrote about...but if you ever want to get a 3PH chipper...you'd be just right!

Hello,
Congratulations!!! Nice choice on the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I think that price was very fair. If the service is good and the dealer is somewhat close its worth it! I've found over the years that I would rather spend a little more to get good service.
My dealer also said he would pick up the tractor and return if it ever needed any service.
As far as the right size? I think it will be perfect for you. I have 3 cleared acres and my TC30 seems to be just the right size. I also use the tractor to cut grass. Its all up to the individual. I had a Ford 1210 before this and it performed flawlessly and always got the job done but with the bigger tractor (Physical size and HP) things go much faster and is much more stable especially with the backhoe. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Did you get HST? How bout the tires?
Hope you can post some pics when you get a chance. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Congratulations again and happy tractoring. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

Congrats on the tractor. And no.. I wouldn't say you overbought.. I think it is good to get a size bigger than is needed a tthe time.. gives you room to expand. Lots of the members here have more than one tractor..

When I just had 3 ac.. I had a NH 1920.. which is between a tc33 and tc 40 ( plus a couple other odds-n-ends tractors to play with. ).

We now have 13 ac.. an plan on getting a few more... So I thought 'ahead' and got a 7610S.. now I'm set for.. well more land than I can afford.. so.. have fun.. this tractor thing is addicting!

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

Congratulations - I was seriously tempted by the TC30. It's a lot of very good tractor for the money. I concluded in the end it was too large for my needs, but it sounds appropriate for yours for some time to come. It may be a bit too much for the mowing, depending on if it's lawn or field, but there's lots of variables in that.

Servicing approach depends on the dealer. Some always pick up and return, almost always for a charge, unless it's warranty work. Some service on-site. I've had two minor warranty calls, both were fixed at my house.

Did you get gear or HST?

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

Welcome to TBN, jwalker. Hope you find this forum as helpful and informative as I have.
The TC30 is a very nice tractor /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. It will make the tasks you outlined much easier and you may even have some fun in the process /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I personally think you got just the right size machine. Do you already have attachments or are they soon to come? Again, this forum is a great place to gather information and ask questions.
I wish you the best in your home building project. Enjoy that NEW tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif!

I would have to agree as well. I have 7.5 acres and a TC30 HST and it fits me and my place just fine. It is a workhorse. I've gotten more done since I bought it last fall than I have in the previous 6 years we have been here.

Is it just my imagination or have there been a lot of new TC30 owners on the board lately?

I have also noticed that New Holland has been featuring the TC30 in their print and radio advertising...

I hear spots on the local radio station evey couple of hours, and they only mention the TC30.

Last week's issue of Farm and Dairy has four or five advertisements for New Holland dealers in the area, and each one only mentions the TC30.

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

I recently bought a Case DX24E, which is the subcompact twin to the NH TZ24DA for my 1 acre lot. I was concerned that it may be a bit on the big side, but knew that the work I needed to do warranted at the minimum, a subcompact. Well, it turns out there's even more to do than I originally thought (thanks to some of the things that the previous owners created in their yard), and I could have even justified getting a larger compact 24 or 30 hp machine. My machine will do the job fine, and there is some bigger work that I decided would require a larger rental machine, but all of that was factored into my buying decision.

We hope to move up to 5-10 acres in another 3-5 years, and will probably end up with another project house. If it appears to be anywhere near the extent of yardwork of my current little 1 acre lot, I think I may seriously consider upgrading to a larger compact machine, as my little compact, though capable on that acreage, will be a bit more time consuming than a larger tractor.

If I had purchased a 3.5 acre lot, I would have opted for a larger compact 30hp tractor, so in my opinion, you bought just the right sized machine. You are going to find plenty of work to do with that machine of yours, especially when clearing out the wooded portion of your property.

So enjoy your new tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Just bought TC30, hope I didn\'t overbuy

I've noticed the same thing that Kevin mentions - it does seem like there are a lot of new TC30 owners posting on TBN. When I bought my TC30 last fall, I started keeping a separate list of TC30 owners posting on the tractor websites. I thought such a list may come in handy some day particularly if I needed to talk to someone or a group of people specifically about the TC30. So far that list has grown to 24 individuals. I guess New Holland is doing something right - especially when it comes to marketing the TC30.
