I have been looking for quite a while and just bought my NH TC40DA yesterday. I can't wait to have some decent weather (no rain) to be able to see what it can do. Hopefully this weekend I'll will get a shot .

Congratulations - great choice! I think the class III Boomers are one of the most comfortable and well thought-out designs available.

Another big CONGRATS! I love mine.

Read the manuals and any questions you can't find the answers to, ask 'em here - these guys have seen it all.

For example, I was having trouble shifting from 4-wheel to 2-wheel. Couldn't get the lever to move. Read all the books - no help. Asked here and found out that it is a common occurrence - you just use the FEL to lift the front tires off the ground and it switches as easy as butter. Something about the torque building up. But I would have never figured that out without the accumulated years of knowledge these guys have.

Good luck and have fun - be safe.

Congratulations, you are going to love your new machine. You'll really be surprised at how smooth that hydro will be. I think the waiting for the new rig to arrive is the worst part of the whole buying experience.

I am trying to post on here and I'm not sure if I clicked on the right button. I got to use my new baby last night after I got home from work but only for a 1/2 hour. I am impressed with it it seems to be the payoff for my extensive looking shopping and asking around. I am used to borrowing my fathers Kubota b-20 but the size of mine is at least double. I bought it because it is bigger and that is what I need to move my logs onto my Sawmill and haul logs out of the woods with. I can't wait to use it more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a little over 50 hours on my 45DA, and it has been great. The design and layout are the best IMO. Equipped with FEL, loaded R4s, and 6' box scraper, I have done mostly earthwork so far. It's been so effective, I've decided to order the BH. In addition to digging some serious holes, I am looking forward to getting some more implements so I can do a bunch of fence work and prepare a 5 acre site for planting a vineyard. The tractor seems well suited for anything and everything.

Doug's comment about the procedure for switching out of 4WD is spot on. I do the same thing (i.e., lift the front up with the FEL before moving the lever out of the 4WD position).

Started lurking the forum here recently because I am in the market for a new tractor. Now I am reading this 2WD/4WD switching issue and it seems like a major concern to me. I will be using a tractor with a 6' brush hog for mowing approximately 25 acres and probably will not have the FEL mounted for that. Also when skidding logs out I probably would not have it mounted either so what do you do then?

Just don't use 4WD in non-slip conditions. If the wheels can't spin occasionally to relieve any rotational differences, you'll get binding. This will happen with any 4WD tractor, or auto (with locked 4WD) for that matter.

I understand binding with 4 wheel drives but to have to raise the front wheels off the ground to get rid of it seems like a major pain and if I was in the market and I was told I had to do that to get it out of 4 wheel drive I would be looking at another color.

I don't have to do that with my TC29D and couldn't you put the clutch in to get rid of the binding as that should release some of the binding or can't you be moving while you take it out of 4 wheel??

So you other TC40's answer this, do you all have to raise the front wheels?
