Just bought a JD X728 tractor 4x4

Was torn between the X729 (4-wheel steer) but most of my use is in straight line so not important.

I got it for snow removal with the 47" 2-stage blower, very little grass to mow. I can't take using the Ariens 13hp 36in walk behind anymore. Although a great snow blower its hard on the body to wrestle it in heavy snow. I have about a 100 ft of drive that border along the street so plowed in snow is a big problem to move.

Dealer assured me it was the perfect machine for my use. I have two large drives to clear that cover about 2000+ sq ft. and lots of pushed in snow from the grader they clean the roads here. We get over 200in snow on average. I was paying $200 a month Dec-Mar to have them plowed and he would only plow once a day. He quit plowing for $$ this year, says his 4 yo Ford is a pos from plowing.

I was just looking. the bill says "Special Edition". Do not know what makes it a special edition? Was not even aware of that..

I was just looking. the bill says "Special Edition". Do not know what makes it a special edition? Was not even aware of that..

the extra 5% added to the bill makes it the special edition. lol

Looks like it has a brush guard and some other goodies.

I printed out both the X728 and X728SE and compared them. I was not even aware I bought a SE. Not that is matters, was the only X728 the dealer had left.

That's a beautiful machine! I just put the curtis
soft side cab on my X585 (old version of the X728) and
I am ready for snow to come. We could get it any time now,
I envy that new 4wd system, mine is the old mechanical
4wd, and you have the new hydraulic drive/full time 4wheel
drive, which is sweet!

Grill/Brush Guard

Pay close attention to the wheels. While it doesn't effect performance, they look like mags. Also, upgraded seat includes arm-rests.

He delivered this afternoon. I notice the yellow sport wheels with the green pinstripe around the bead. The seat is nice, more adjustments then regular seat.

The grill guard won't work with the blower so he offered me a chute deflector control and will install it in place of the GG.
This is the first tractor I have ever owned so I figured might as well get a good one. The dealer discounted it 10% for no trade-in.

Ah a cab must be nice.

yup, had the old version on my 445, no heat, but elec wiper and
front lights, and it makes the job a breeze. this new cab is
much heavier, still vinyl door etc, but glass windshield, elec wiper,
and i recycled my front lights.

i'm still debating how much weight/chains to use. old 445 had
loaded tires, chains, and old curtis cab. never a problem.
this new X585 is 4wd, so i may back off on the weight till i
see how it goes (cab is over 200 lbs). still plan on using chains
though. that white stuff gets deep here.

Well, it beats shovelling, that's for sure.

The one comment I have about blowers is that bigger isn't always better. My newest neighbour just got a 56 inch (I think) for his Kubota and he's kicking himself now because it doesn't fit everywhere. He's actually having to shovel by hand in a few places. If he would have gotten a 48 inch, all he'd have to shovel is his step.

Other than that though, get the biggest that your dealer recommends and enjoy yourself.

The 47" barely covers the wheel width, the 54" eliminates packing snow with the inside tire when turning.
