well i just bought my first tractor. I decided on a JD855, because i got the chance to try my friends out and it did everything i needed it to do (mostly mow). There are just so many models out there and i didn't feel like looking at a bunch of different used tractors. It seemed like every 855 i found that matched what i wanted, they were already sold. I got lucky and called a friend of a friend who sells JD and he was taking one in on trade.
it is a 1995 w/1600 hours, 72MMM, MFWD, Turf tires in the rear and R4s in the front. It has a one year old 300X loader. The tractor is in great shape with little rust and runs great. the hood is a little banged up, when you open it, it rubs against the grill guard. I am guessing it is because the loader is for new models.
I paid 8900 for it. I couldn't find one with even a 70A loader for this price. Just curious to see if you guys think i got a fair deal (even after the fact).
also, the salesman said that the R4s are actaully better for mowing since they are harder than turfs and will not tear up the yard as much when turning. they are wore down pretty good in the center and didn't tear up the yard when i mowed. Is this true?
thanks for all the good info i have been reading on here lately
