Just A Few Gate Latches-Nuttin' Fancy

This thread is spur from another on a loafing shed/barn thread. The idea of this one came from it but also of one that Harvey Lacey had once on some gate latches he makes. One of these with the two horseshoes is a copy of one of his. Some of the others are ones I've used at other farms or ranches and are a close copy of those. Some have been made to access the gate while horseback so you don't have to dismount to get through it.

Thanks and glad to hear it. That's exactly what I'd had hoped would happen. If you run upon any others take some pics and post them or post yours when yo get it built and mounted!:thumbsup:

If you don't have the spare horseshoes laying around like we do just pick up some new ones and use them or you can even find a farrier, I'm sure they have some spares they'd give you.

Funny you say that. The thing is where we used to live we would find old horseshoes when we tilled the soil. Now that we don't have a sourse for them I thought ahead and the last time I was visiting my Amish cousins, I grabbed some out of the "metal for later"/scrap pile. All that to say, I do have some!

This is one of the reasons I like this Web site. There are so many good and practical ideas to steal and use.

Had some time today and went out and took pictures of the varied gate latches on our place. Believe it or not, this isn't all of them. Seems like every time we hang or build a gate we come up with a new latch idea.
