Jubilee stuck in gear

We have a 1953 Jubilee that is stuck in first gear.
We are looking for the easy fix LOL. No, just how to fix it, the grass is getting taller by the minute.

I've heard you can access it from the top plate and pry it loose. Is it possible to get a couple of hefty men and rock it forward and backward while working the shifter without pushing the clutch?

I had a '53 and this happened to me. At first I thought it was a disaster but as suggested you can usually slide a gear or two with a long pry bar or screw driver to free it up thru the fill cap on top of the transmission.
