last week, i was heading to work, @ 5:30am..got about 3/4 mile from the house and could see something in the middle of the road, so i slowed down....it was a big owl, right in the middle of the road..thats one of the joys of rural living..
this morning, a little over a mile from the house, a skunk ran out in front of me...but i lucked out, i straddled him/her..there is something good about having a 4wd truck..i held my breath for a while..and was very pleased, i didn't get sprayed..so i'm not sure which catagory this one goes in..but i know where it could have gone.

I'll bet you were waiting for the SMELL to set in for a few miles in that close call. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

My silly dog thinks it's neat to bark at and antagonize the local skunk population. Last night at 10:30 PM I let him out to do his duty before going to bed, he came back up on the deck real quick after barking for a minute..............He was getting bathed at 10:35PM /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We've got so many deer running around lately it is getting hard to avoid them (I shot the resident skunk a few weeks back and so far we haven't had a replacement yet /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif). They're pretty tame, so they will wait until the last minute before they run.

They're also kind of hard to see when they're in the gully where the stream runs next to the road. I've been driving up from the main road ('bout half mile), and had them decide that the best way to escape is to leap out from the streambed and jump across the road. Darn near had one in my windsheild the other day, but was able to stop in time (I drive nice and slow - we do have a few other people that share the road that drive fast and they might get a real surprise one day /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif).

It ain't the same out here as it is down in the suburbs. But boy is it worth it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You gotta hate those 10:30 pm pet baths. Our dog has been through a few in the past while with the H2O2 baking soda and detergent formula but the smell is penetrating.

Now I take her out on a lead for her nighttime chores. A small inconvenience with excellent return! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ... and it means I get to see the night sky fairly consistently - another rural pleasure.
