the jd part .AM118796 is a bit pricey for a cylinder at $300. Is there a way to utilize a swivel eye cylinder, obtain a tapered pin and do it for less. Or just a cylinder that would accept two ty rod ends?

I had no luck with anything except a new JD cylinder.
You could Google the part number to see what comes up.

I got mine from greenfarmparts.com and they may still have the deal where you enter "LMF" for a coupon code to get maybe 5% off. Might be free shipping and no tax also.
They do come with the boot, so don't order one like I did.

If you change it, do not disturb the lines going back up under to the pump, they are a pain to get to, if you disturb the o-ring seals.
