John Deere X485 or X495

Hi group,

I am looking for a good used lawn tractor for my Hobby farm/Hunting Land. I have found many JD lawn tractors available and the x485/X495 look like the size unit that would work for me. My farm is 150 miles away and the tractor will be used for mowing the lawn but also keeping my trails cut through my NWSG (after Initially Brush hogging the NWSG) and I plan to add a 3 point hitch and tiller for doing a garden.

My question is there a benefit to the Diesel X495 and are there any concerns with these two mowers? I'm looking for a unit that is really stought and will last for many years. The units I have been looking at are 2005-2006 units with around 700 hours.

The diesel will be much MUCH more thrifty with the fuel. The gas version will eat much more.

FB I think you will be further ahead picking up a used 2210, 2305, or BX type tractor if you want to do a lot of
3ph work. With one of those, you can then get a bush hog and do that part yourself. Then you have a heavier
tractor for doing tiller work or any other 3ph jobs you come across. the X4 series are HD garden tractors, but
as Cherokee mentioned they aren't as efficient with the fuel as the diesel will be. The other benefit of
the compact would be a loader is much more affective than the loaders on the X series (i have one).

I'm at this very same juncture. But I think I'm going with a Mahindra Max25 HST instead of the John Deere 400 or 700 series units. You can do more with the Max and it's almost the same size. B.
