Hi all,

I have an old John Deere TWA disk harrow which I am trying to restore. The leveling screw was broken and I had to remove it. Inside the drawbar is the nut part of the trunnion, but its threads are destroyed. The previous owner had welded a nut to the top of the drawbar to hold the screw up, but this arrangement obviously does not work as the welded nut cannot pivot as the screw moves the drawbar up or down. This may have contributed to the leveling screw breaking. I have part diagrams of the TWA plow, but it does not show the part. Can anyone help me figure out how to remove this bolt from inside the trunnion so I can have a new one fabricated? Thank you. If anyone would like me to post some photos, I can.

It appears that JD engineers thought that the trunnion nut would last forever as it wasn't offered as a parts item that I can locate either. It might be possible to have a nut built and install it similar to nut(parts key 19) in parts photo.

Tx Jim,

Thank you for the answer. The question remains: how did they install that trunnion nut in there? I do not see any welds on the sides of the nut - where it connects to the swivel pins. I tried turning the swivel pins to see if the end is threaded but can't (can't really get a good grip on the pins though). There is no way that the trunnion nut will come out of the drawbar without disassembly as the holes below and above are too small. I am very confused as to how this was put together. If you look at the trunnion nut of TW plow, it looks like one solid piece. I bet it isn't, however. I am very confused. Any ideas on what to do next? Thanks.

Sorry but I don't have an answer for your question. I'm fairly confident I assembled tandem disk similar to yours but that was a long, long time ago.
