John deere owners manual mistakes!

Hi Just bought a new john deere 3005 and in reading owners manual I am finding many mistakes! My manual list oil fill wrong in specs,One spot it talks about the intake air heater that was replaced by glow plugs on this tractor! I went to john deere site and manual on line does not match mine. The tractor has a spin fuel filter that the manual never says anything about. None of this is earth shattering to me but it maybe to someone new to equipment. So my point is do not believe everything you read in manual!! Thanks

Yep - that is nothing new. Do the pictures even match your tractor? I bet the transmission pictures are wrong. Some people have been able to get new manuals from their dealers on other tractors like the 2305, 2320, and 2520 - none of which have accurate manuals either. Mine is wrong (2320) but you can get accurate help here when you need it, or order the tech manual on CD which no one has complained about.

The manuals are a joke on some things, best to get the service manual on CD.

The manual for my 4110 is pretty good actually...but I have heard all the horror stories since the 2x20 and the 3x20 series came out-sad to say the least!

The FSM on CD is fantastic and money well spent IMHO

I thought a little pressure would be good for ya.

If i had a problem with my tractor i would rather ask you.

If i called a JD dealer he would say-( hey man, bring that thing in)

I was able to get a new, updated manual for my 2520 from the dealer. The hydro fluid change in my original was all wrong, pictures and all. Seems like they do periodically release new versions with corrections. I told my dealer the manual should be covered by warranty just like any part of the tractor and they agreed. I think its good to have a correct one especially if you ever sell the tractor. That said, the parts and repair manuals on CD are nice to have too.

hey the cd isn't always right either, picture doesn't show what the page description says in my parts manual , sometimes you just have to go to jdparts.com

The owners manual on my 4010 is pretty good. It did not have anything in it, though, about how to work the glow plugs (e.g. put in L or H; hold at start to count of 2 in summer and 4 to 6 in winter; move lever to N).

It also did not have in it the fact that you have to remove one of the rear wheels to get at the hydraulic filter, e.g. to slide the 3ph bar from in front of the filter cap.

Can't complain about my manual since I don't have one. But the online manual is accurate for my 4720, maybe they used that model as the base for the manual? If so I guess it could be a little off the mark for some of the other models covered by the same manual.
