I don't know if I am in the right place to ask this question but here it goes anyway. I have a John Deere L-111 riding lawn mower that I am having trouble with gas getting in the oil. I was told that it was because the needle valve wasn't closing off the gas in the carburetor so I ordered a carb kit and went to work. I took carb apart and cleaned in carb cleaner blow it out and made sure it was good and clean. Put back on the tractor and still the same thing. Starts up fine and runs fine but when mowing some times it starts to blow smoke and starts to back fire and die. Check the oil and there is gas in the oil and the dip stick shows more than when I started. Oh by the way it has a 20hp Briggs and Stratton engine on it. I ordered the carb kit from a tractor place other than John Deere and I have been told by a lawn mower mechanic that if you don't get the kit from John Deere the needle valve is to short and will not shut the gas off. Does anyone know if this is true and has anyone had the same problem. If you did have the same problem please tell me how to fix before I blow the engine up.
Thanks in advance for the replies,
Larry
