John Deere LX277 Starts eventually...

New to the forum; looking for help with a John Deere LX277.
It's a starting issue; eventually it turns over and starts but (it seems) only after sitting with the key on for several minutes.

Once running there's no issue, starts/stops just fine. But after sitting idle for a few days, go to crank it & nothing happens, just a single "click" sound. Eventually it starts but I'd sure like to fix this! As it is I twist this, lower that, even unplugged the auto cut-off switch under the seat (that time it fired up but had to be plugged in to engage!) so I'm lost.

Lastly, it seems like if I quit clicking away & just leave the key on it eventually starts. Does that make any kind of sense?

New battery too. Maybe a starter solenoid?

Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

Those starters have to get ALL 12 volts to work . With 2 or 3 safety switches for current to go through that doesn't always happen .There is a fix . Wire a small 4 post relay into the starting circuit and problem solved . I found this in an old thread on My Tractor Forum . com . Showed the relay and how to wire it .I did it to my stx 38 and never had another problem . I think Deere sells it as a starter improvement kit also . Ijust bought the relay online for 4 bucks .Took about 20 minutes to do . Hope this helps .

Yep , go to MTF.COM . Click active topics , click last day, top middle of page google stx38 starter fix . I think you have a Kawasaki engine instead of kohler , but same principle applies . Good luck .
