Recently I was mowing the lawn and reached over to pick up a water bottle. I came up off the seat, it cut off and have not been able to crank it since.

I can't see where the switch was damaged although I have not take it completely out.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The switch may have stuck, do you leave it outside where it could get wet? The springs in the switch may have rusted, a new switch is only around $8 from JD.

Did you remember to shut off the PTO switch?

Also sometimes in frustration pushing too hard on the brake pedal will snap off the saftey switch there causing a no crank situation. That switch is about the same price too.

Don't know about yours, but a friend of mine's JD had the seat switch inside the seat, controlled by pressure on the seat cushion. Personally, I hate seat switches and always short-circuit them. You just can't use any body english with a seat switch, which is very frustrating for an old motocrosser and snowmobiler like me.

I agree with you. I have a 2305 and when I am using my front end loader and lean over to see where the front edge is the engine usually cuts out. I once had a X300 series and had the same problem when using the snowblower. I disabled it. I blame it on too many lawyers.

What & where is the PTO switch? We put on a new seat switch & brake switch, new spark plugs, & cleaned battery cables. Battery has power. All this & still won't start. Any other suggestions? Don't really want to take it in for service.

The PTO switch is your ON and OFF switch for your mower. Does your engine turn at all when you turn the key? Any chance that the wires for the seat switch got pinch somewhere between the seat and the tractor when you sat back on it?

Henri88,
No the engine doesn't turn. I don't know about pinched wires.

What I meant was, could the wires to the seat switch got caught somewhere between the seat and the tractor. Make sure your wires have not been cut. The fact that your problem started when you got up and sat down made me think that it could be the wire if it's not the switch.

Does the engine turn if you try to turn it by hand? Lift the hood and try to turn the round screen thing on the top of the engine.
Just a wild guess that something else may have gone wrong.

I just had the same problem today was mowing leaned over and tractor shut off. Tried to restart with no luck. When I turn the key it sounds like a whining noise under the dash. Similar to a low battery. It won't turn over. I tried jumping from the car turns over really slow. Tractor is only 3 years old so I don't think it's the battery
