John Deere Diverter on 2520/2720

I got the mechanical diverter valve option on my 2720.
For those that have it, is there anything special on how to use it, other than just pulling it in & out.
The problem I am having is that it sticks & will not move unless I turn the knob a 1/2 to full turn. After I turn the knob, the rod moves in & out freely.

What does the diverter valve do? I have a very nice John Deere garden tractor but all my compact tractors have been New Holland or Kubota. Nothing I have ever owned had a diverter valve, and I'm kind of curious what this does. Thank you.

On the John Deere Sub Compact Tractors, the mower deck raises & lowers with the 3 point hitch. They have an option of adding an independent hydraulic lift for the mower deck. The lines for the independent lift connect the bucket control hydraulic outlets. If you have the loader on the tractor the same time as the mower, you have to swap lines to use the bucket or the or the mower. The diverter valve allows adding 2 more outlets to the bucket control side of the loader valve. The lines for the bucket & mower can be connected at the same time. The deverter valve switches the flow of oil between the mower & the bucket.

I've also never had a belly mower on any of my Kubota or NH tractors, though I am thinking about getting one for my current B3030. Do you know if Kubota tractors work the same way when using a loader and belly mower together? Something sticks in my mind about pinning the Kubota belly mower up?

For me, I dont have a mower deck, I use my diverter valve for rear outlets for my pull type box scraper. Before the valve kit, I had the re-router kit. Four mounts on the rear and hoses that run up and plug into where the loader plugs in. Everytime I wanted to use the rear outlets, I had to remove the loader. Now, I leave the loader on, and flip the valve and that powers two of the four outlets on the rear. The other two, I just have the hoses tied up under the tractor.

Two are for raise/lower the scraper and the other two tilt.

....so basically this arrangement just allow you to use the loader valve to control other remotes, instead of adding separate, dedicated valves. Is that accurate?

Yes, there is a push/pull lever by your right heal. push it in and you have raise/lower of loader, pull out and you have rear outlets (on mine).

I have the diverter valve installed on my 2320 for the independent lift.

I noticed it was hard to engage and disengage when new but has since became easier with 60 hrs of use.

I normally work it a few times every time I run the unit to losses up the seals.

Also, it appears that if you have a high pressure differential in the lines, it may be harder to engage/disengage.

Try lowering your loader bucket or MMM when switching the diverter to relieve some of the pressure or idle down the throttle.

After a few cycles, it should loosen up to allow full, effortless functionality at all times.

I really wish ALL the manufacturers would offer more valves on their tractors. A fully hydraulic rearblade requires four circuits to control as an example. Most tractors don't have two valves dedicated to the rear implements. It would be helpful if these were available as an option but there not.

Diverters are helpful but are a stop gap fix imo, you shouldn't have to switch a diverter back and forth to raise/lower your mower deck or curl your bucket. The best setup on the compacts I have seen so far is on the 110tlb which has an electric triple diverter for the three spool valves. This allows you to select via thumb switch on the joystick between front and back outlets. Wish this option was available on all the 2000 series and up but it isn't.

I don't understand why an end user has to cobble up their own hydraulics with a power beyond circuit to get what they need.

When you say four circuits, are you referring to two valves with a supply & return for each?

Kubota offers factory valves for 3 rear remotes on the Grand L, and 2 for the B-series premium tractors (like my B3030). While they are not inexpensive, I think I prefer this arrangement over a diverter valve. ...if I can convince myself I have an actual need, I'll add the second remote on mine. The nice thing about the factory kits is that the thinking is already done, and everything fits nicely - both the valves/levers and the remote connections.
