John Deere 950 crank-up

Hiiiii all,

Thank you all for such a cool site, After the rebuild of the 950 it seems to purrs like a kitten, I added a heat temp gauge as a peace of mind, first time out about to bush hog my shear bolt was gone so I was able to turn it around and come back to the house. Got looking around and there was motor oil all over the side of the motor around the exhaust manifold, at first I thought it was coming from the head then reading here it might be coming from the manifold. Is there suppose to be so much oil coming from the exhaust, it looked like a lot of oil. I hope to take it apart but was wondering if I could run it now?

Possibly rings not seated after the rebuild. I hope mechanic didn't forget to install the rings on the pistons.

What an interesting thought as sad as it is, I see a compression check coming soon, Is there to be any black oil in the exhaust?

Who rebuilt it? Did you replace the copper washers on the oil lines to the head? You will have to remove the exhaust manifold to fix it,if this is where the oil is coming from. Fix it before you run out of oil,or catch it on fire.

You have gave me something to check, Ty. The rebuild came from one at his house in la Grange GA. To me it purrs, He did get one on me with a bolt and jb weld stuck at the water pump after i tapped that out and the water quit spraying, up and running it was. Today I noticed milky trans fluid and couldn't find a filter JD dealer said just a screen for that model 950 +2000 the best I can tell. 5 gals and clean a strainer able to cut maybe 9 acres watching out for a fire or high temp on the gauge. I think you're telling me that the oil lines are behind the manifold which I bet your so right about the copper washers.
